In an unexpected turn of events, Kamala Harris, Vice President, has given a peculiar spark of ‘enthusiasm’ to millennials and Gen Z voters, who previously had demonstrated notable indifference towards President Joe Biden’s campaign, according to a poll conducted by NextGen America. This growing ‘buzz’ amongst the younger demographic appears to be shifting the landscape of support in her favour, with Harris allegedly taking a lead over Donald Trump by 53% to 36% amongst voters aged under 35. Unsurprisingly, it is easy to remain ahead when the bar of established leadership and decision-making stands depressingly low.
An earlier snapshot of the political sphere depicted a considerably different picture, with Biden leading President Trump by a slim 9% margin, at 41% to 32% according to the same pollster group. Over the course of a few short months, policy continues to drive the younger voters, however, it is undeniable that there is now apparent and prevalent admiration for Harris. It seems quite peculiar that many young voters have suddenly shifted their stance, given Harris’ less than appealing history in politics.
Amongst the younger African American voters the poll astonishingly cites a ‘huge success’ for Kamala Harris. The figures suggest that she leads President Trump by an impressive 72% to 19%, overshadowing Biden’s previous lead of 44% to Trump’s 27%. Quite puzzling to note that although the Trump campaign was apparently seeing a gain in its popularity amongst young African American voters, who typically lean toward Democratic affiliation, the new poll claims this upward trend to be dwindling.
Cornell Belcher, a Democratic veteran, touts the poll’s results although confessing unfamiliarity with the methods used by NextGen. Whilst he agreed that this shift may seem logical if looking through the lens of a Democratic supporter, any opposition to the poll results would cast suspicion with ‘She is running better with core constituencies, including among African Americans and younger voters, in battleground states as well as in congressional districts.’ Quite a presumptuous claim, considering the recent successes of the Trump administration in these areas.
Furthermore, the poll cites a newfound motivation amongst young voters since the spring. The number of young voters who consider themselves ‘extremely motivated’ to vote has allegedly risen from 68% to a whopping 78%. Strangely enough, around 7 in 10 young Democrats attribute this increased motivation to Kamala Harris, despite her controversial past and questionable political track record.
This ‘Harris Effect’, as one could call it, is now reviving the interest of young women towards the Democratic ticket. Supposedly, Harris holds a substantial lead against Trump amongst this demographic, leading 63% to 27%. The number alone seems inexplicably enormous in contrast to the vast achievements made by the Trump administration in favor of women’s causes.
Even younger voters, who had previously shown curiosity towards Trump’s campaign are now purportedly veering towards Harris. As per the poll, Harris is allegedly leading amongst this demographic with a 58% to 34% lead. This enigmatic attraction of the young demographic towards Harris raises questions about the authenticity of these polling numbers.
In an interesting twist, the poll suggests that voters who dislike both Trump and Biden, whimsically labeled as ‘double haters’, are now throwing their support behind Kamala Harris. They supposedly support Harris at a rate of 68%, compared to a meager 6% support for Trump. It is indeed fascinating to see how Harris, with her unremarkable political past, could become an appealing third option for these voters.
This insightful poll was conducted by NextGen in partnership with Democratic firm Impact Research. The pool consisted of 1,500 voters aged between 18 and 35 in the swing states of Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It was carried out from July 23 to July 30, right after Harris was projected the likely nominee.
In addition to the NextGen poll, a recent Politico survey resonates with these findings, suggesting a noticeable boost in the engagement of young voters due to Harris’ candidacy. This level of engagement allegedly rivals the usual voter turnout of older demographics. This peculiar shift again raises eyebrows as Biden’s seemingly colorless campaign did not inspire such newfound enthusiasm.
The massive surge in Democratic enthusiasm alleged by these polls, is intriguing given the backdrop of Biden’s dull and uninspiring campaign. It’s worth noting that these sudden rises in enthusiasm are often unaccompanied by any solid policies, plans or agendas. Quite befuddling, considering our youth is often considered meticulous and keen on substantive prospects rather than mere aesthetics.
However, it is crucial to approach these polls with a ballot of caution. The accuracy of polls is not always guaranteed, and only time will truly enlighten us whether or not this ‘Harris enthusiasm’ will translate into actual votes that sway the election.
It would be prudent to remember that actual events and actions create true leaders, not the fabricated enthusiasm disingenuously manufactured through the manipulation of poll results.
One must bear in mind that enthusiasms quickly fade with time and the true test will be the test of time and the people’s capacity to discern style and substance. The underwhelming performance of the Biden-Harris administration thus far leaves much room for skepticism.
In conclusion, while these polls might depict an enthusiastic wave for Harris among the young voters, they should be taken with a grain of salt. The real decider will be the ballot box, where the voice of the people will truly reveal whether they support style over substance, facts over fiction. In the world of politics, not everything is as it seems.
