Energy Giant Puts Goal To Drastically Cut Oil, Gas Production On Ice
European energy company BP has abandoned its pledge to cut oil and gas production by 2030 as the firm aims to shore up investor confidence amid a slide in its share price, Reuters reported Monday.
BP unveiled plans in August 2020 to reduce its oil and gas output 40% by 2030, before dialing back the target to 25% in February 2023, according to Reuters. Now, in an attempt to regain the trust of investors, CEO Murray Auchincloss has dropped the target altogether in what sources told Reuters is part of a broader corporate strategy shift to focus on profitability and returns rather than green initiatives
The news follows BP announcing plans to sell its roughly $2 billion U.S. onshore wind portfolio in September and comes as the company’s share price sits at a near two-year low. It also coincides with a strategy shift at rival energy company Shell, which rejected further cuts to oil production in June 2023 shortly before its CEO Wael Sawan described lowering oil output as “dangerous and irresponsible” in a July 2023 interview with the BBC.

Chelsea Atkins, 38, a health researcher originally from Buffalo, NY, shared her frustration with FEMA’s incompetence in an interview with the New York Post.
“FEMA called me and told me they wanted to inspect my house, then called me back to say they couldn’t drive around the ‘road closed’ sign. They weren’t allowed,” she told The Post.
“You can drive it by car for sure, it’s not that bad, you just have to drive around the ‘road closed’ sign. I explained that to them. They said they couldn’t.”

Verizon goes down for thousands across US with users unable to make calls or use internet
Verizon went down across the US on Monday, leaving users unable to make phone calls, send text messages or surf the web.
Downdector, a site that monitors online outages, showed issues began about 8am ET, with customers reported mobile phone and internet services are not working.
Customers in New York City, Washington DC and Phoenix had the highest concentration of reported issues.
This marks the second Verizon outage in less than two weeks, with the last hitting in September 30.
Verizon has more than 143 million users in the US – but the amount hit by the outage is unknown.

Axios reported Friday that the race between incumbent Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Republican challenger Eric Hovde has tightened significantly as Election Day approaches.
“Multiple Democratic sources told Axios there are ‘alarm bells’ ringing in the state, arguing the race is much tighter than what public polling has shown,” the news outlet said.
The Real Clear Polling average shows Baldwin with a 3.5 percent lead.
Most recently, a New York Times/Siena College survey has Baldwin up 7 percentage points, but a Trafalgar Group poll released after the Times one shows her only with a 2 percent edge.
Axios further noted, “Between the lines: Over the next month, Republicans in the state have a nearly $3.5 million spending advantage on the airwaves, according to a source familiar with ad buys in Wisconsin.”

Nadine Williams, the Director of Fulton County Department of Registration & Elections, allegedly excluded qualified Republican poll workers from the hiring process for the upcoming November 2024 election.
The Republican National Committee (RNC), along with the Georgia Republican Party and the Fulton County Republican Party, has filed a lawsuit against Nadine Williams, the Director of Fulton County Department of Registration & Elections.
The lawsuit alleges that Williams intentionally excluded qualified Republican poll workers from the hiring process for the upcoming November 2024 election, hiring only 15 Republicans out of 804 total election staff.
The lawsuit, filed in Fulton County Superior Court, seeks an emergency writ of mandamus, demanding Williams immediately appoint the Republican poll workers that were submitted for consideration.
Under Georgia law, political parties are entitled to submit lists of qualified individuals to serve as poll workers, and election officials are required to ensure balanced representation from both parties at polling places.
However, according to the lawsuit, the RNC and its affiliates claim that Williams has outright ignored their lists, violating the state law meant to ensure fair elections.
Out of 62 qualified Republicans submitted to work on election day, only 6 were hired. Similarly, of the 45 Republicans who applied for early voting positions, a mere 9 were selected.

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley recently dodged a question about the 218,000 voters, telling Maria Bartoromo, “We’re going to have observers and lawyers who are going to be in the room whenever a vote is counted, whenever a vote is cast, to make sure that we’re going to be on top of this.”
Additionally, it has been revealed that overseas uniformed and civilian voters can register online without providing identification, a Social Security Number, or other proof of citizenship. The Democrats are reportedly working to collect 9 million overseas votes despite there being only 2.8 million eligible overseas voters.

CNN Analyst: Deeper Look at Polls Shows Kamala Harris Win Would Be ‘Historically Unprecedented’
One critical number could mean that Vice President Kamala Harris has little hope of winning the presidential election, according to a CNN data analyst.
Harry Enten said the biggest problem Harris faces is being part of an administration that most Americans think is not helping the country.
“If we look at whether voters believe we’re on the right track or the wrong track, I think that this sort of gets at a problem for Kamala Harris’s campaign. Just 28% of Americans think the U.S is on the right track,” he said, according to a video posted on RealClearPolitics.
According to Enten’s data, the average approval rating for incumbents who lose an election sits at around 25 percent which “looks a heck of a lot like” Harris’ 28 percent.
