Memphis law enforcement officials are currently seeking the public’s assistance in locating an individual who has been accused of menacing a staff member at the Dollar Tree with a large blade. The incident unfolded last Friday, precisely at 3:20 p.m., when officers were summoned to address a distressing instance of aggravated assault taking place at the Dollar Tree outlet situated at 3060 Thomas Street.
Upon their arrival, police were informed by the victim that an unidentified gentleman had trespassed into the premises. The suspect was described to have been dressed in a black hoodie, which he wore with its hood drawn around his head, and matching dark colored trousers.
As per the victim’s testimony, he encountered the suspect and informed him that it was against the store’s established protocol for patrons to have their heads or faces concealed. This policy, as per the victim’s report, was explained to the now irate suspect.
The victim recounted how instantly the situation took a turn for the worse when the suspect responded in a hostile and confrontational manner to this request for compliance, thereby causing an unwarranted commotion inside the establishment. Following this disruption, the dispute escalated and the suspect was requested to leave the premise immediately.
The distressed employee relayed to officers that before exiting the store, the enraged suspect issued a distressingly violent threat, cursing, ‘I will kill y’all.’ The suspect then promptly exited the building, making his way towards his vehicle parked in the vicinity, which was identified as a black colored Ford Mustang.
What transpired next escalated the situation further. As relayed by the employee, the alleged suspect reached into his Mustang and pulled out a large machete. This alarming sequence of events witnessed the suspect, brandishing a machete, stride back towards the Dollar Tree outlet.
The suspect, machete in hand, attempted to forcibly re-enter the store. However, acting promptly, the victim had already managed to lock the front doors of the shop, hindering the suspect’s second entry. In this manner, the victim was able to prevent the potential escalation of the situation inside the shop once again.
Standing locked out of the business, the suspect responded aggressively. As per the victim’s account, the suspect started slamming the machete against the glass door, shouting loudly as dismayed staff watched from the safety of the locked inside.
After some time, the suspect left the scene in his black Mustang. This vehicle, as noticeable from the victim’s statement, had distinct damage visible on one side. Another clue left behind by the suspect was the Tennessee license plate number of the vehicle, which reads DKP1492.
Police are currently urging anyone who may have any information related to this distressing incident to step forward. They have set up channels of communication for the purpose of receiving such crucial details that might assist them in apprehending the suspect.
One such means to share information is by contacting Crime Stoppers. The contacted number for Crime Stoppers in Memphis is (901) 528-CASH. They are prepared to receive any details that could potentially identify or locate the suspect, and bring him to justice.
