In yet another embarrassing moment for the left-wing media, MSNBC hosts Stephanie Ruhle and Ali Velshi were forced to issue on-air corrections after misreporting comments made by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The network falsely claimed that Gabbard had referred to President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin as “very good friends”, when in reality, she was referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi—not Putin.
MSNBC’s Failed Hit Job on Gabbard
Both Ruhle and Velshi rushed to push the false narrative, but once the full interview surfaced, they were forced to walk back their erroneous reports.
During her program, Ruhle begrudgingly admitted the mistake, saying:
“Last night we reported on excerpts of an interview between the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and an Indian TV news network in which she said that Trump was good friends with a world leader. We said that world leader was Vladimir Putin. But the full interview shows that Gabbard was referring to Trump and Indian Prime Minister Modi. Cleared that up.”
Velshi issued a nearly identical correction, confirming that MSNBC had deliberately misrepresented Gabbard’s words to fit a preferred narrative.

Even the Associated Press Had to Backtrack
MSNBC wasn’t alone in spreading misinformation—the Associated Press also retracted its story, admitting that their initial reporting failed to meet journalistic standards. A rare admission from a mainstream outlet, it proved that the rush to smear Gabbard was nothing more than politically motivated spin.
Gabbard’s Team Calls Out the Media’s Lies
Alexa Henning, Gabbard’s deputy chief of staff, wasted no time in blasting the mainstream media, exposing how they operate:
“The @AP is total trash. DNI @TulsiGabbard was referring to PM Modi & President Trump and this is the headline they publish. This is why no one trusts the maliciously incompetent and purposefully biased media.”
Yet Another Example of Media Malpractice
This latest MSNBC blunder follows a long pattern of the left-wing press twisting facts, deceptively editing footage, and outright lying to push their preferred political agenda. Whether it’s misreporting Trump, smearing Gabbard, or deceptively editing comments to fit a narrative, the corporate media continues to prove why Americans don’t trust them.
Once again, another smear job has been exposed, and MSNBC’s credibility takes another hit—not that they had much left to begin with.
