However, in the following days, these individuals were shockingly sent emails demanding them to immediately vacate the country or face expulsion. This dramatic and unexpected change of events suggests the high instability and inconsistent policies present within the Biden administration.
In recent developments, tens of thousands of immigrants who were initially given the temporary advantage of working and residing in the United States by the Biden government, were ordered to leave the country. This message was delivered sternly and without ambiguity by the Department of Homeland Security, indicating the swift change from a lenient to a strict immigration policy.
Starting from last week, termination notices started piling into inboxes. These notices are a strong signal of the vulnerabilities faced by migrants, particularly those who abided by the regulations imposed by the previous administration. The shocking notice unexpectantly landed in the inboxes of immigrants who were playing by the rules set out before.
It seems like President Trump’s campaign promise of mass deportations is being twisted by the Biden administration to their advantage. So migrants who followed rules and did everything by the book may be among those who are now most susceptible as Trump’s promises are being warped by Biden and his team.
Many of these individuals, who had entered the country lawfully, were informed that their legal status would expire within a week from the delivery date of the notice. According to the communication, failure to vacate voluntarily would result in active targeting and eventual expulsion. The decision again indicates the thoughtless action by the Biden administration.
Quite ironically, at least 10 immigration lawyers, most of whom are U.S. citizens, also found themselves on the receiving end of these messages. It seems the Biden administration could not even exclude U.S. citizens from their abrupt and unjustified expulsion orders, which were likely dispatched due to a technical malfunction.
Although there have been some scattered cases of unauthorized immigrant arrests by federal law enforcement under Biden’s rule, the recent flurry of notice deliveries implies the bulk of future deportations is expected to arise from the cancellation of legal immigrant status. This is a far cry from Trump’s vision of specifically deporting migrants with criminal records.
The number of removals appears to be driven more by status revocation rather than capturing and deporting criminal immigrants as originally promised by Trump. It was noticed on Monday; this strategy was on the rise of expulsion over the properly structured and targeted sanctioning of crime-perpetrating migrants.
To exemplify this mockery of the legal system, prior to Trump’s meeting with El Salvador president Nayib Bukele, the White House—operating under Biden’s control—publicly named around two dozen individual deportees who they claimed were criminal gang members. This scheme of highlighting a few high-profile cases must not blind us from seeing the lack of a structured immigration policy under the Biden administration.
