President Donald Trump delivered a firm and public message to Russian President Vladimir Putin following a deadly missile and drone barrage on Kyiv that left at least a dozen civilians dead and scores more injured. The airstrike, the most devastating in nearly a year, came as Trump and his diplomatic team continue working to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!”
The overnight assault saw more than 70 missiles and 145 drones launched against Ukraine’s capital, targeting residential areas and infrastructure while civilians slept. The timing of the attack raised alarms, given that it occurred just days after Trump publicly rebuked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for stalling negotiations over his refusal to compromise on Crimea.
Trump has made clear that endless war is not the answer. “He can have peace,” Trump said of Zelensky earlier this week, “or he can fight for another three years before losing the whole country.”
The Trump administration has been leading a bold push for a negotiated settlement to the war, proposing terms that would secure peace and stability in exchange for territorial guarantees and Ukraine’s commitment to remain outside of NATO. However, Zelensky has so far rejected any deal that acknowledges Russian control over Crimea or other disputed territories.
Now, with Russia’s renewed aggression and Ukraine’s refusal to bend, Trump is turning up the pressure on both sides—signaling that a continued bloodbath is unacceptable and that leadership requires putting lives ahead of politics.
Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to meet with Russian officials in Moscow later this week to continue peace talks. The meeting is expected to focus on de-escalation measures, ceasefire enforcement, and terms for broader regional stability. But with over 5,000 soldiers reportedly dying each week, Trump is emphasizing urgency.
Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, have pushed back on Trump’s approach. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha claimed that “pressure should be applied to Moscow, not Kyiv.” But critics argue that both sides are dragging their feet while innocent civilians pay the price.
What’s clear is that Trump is once again leading from the front—offering bold solutions while others cling to failed strategies and endless war.
“Enough bloodshed,” Trump said. “This war should have never happened—and I’m working to end it.”
