A 31-year old resident from Utica has been taken into custody in connection with a stabbing incident that took place on Sunset Avenue. The event unraveled on the 26th of April, just after midnight, when the local police and fire departments were alerted about a reported stabbing at a house located on the 1400 block of Sunset Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers were met with several individuals who reported that the homeowner’s former spouse had made an unexpected visit. The unwanted guest supposedly commenced a heated dispute with the current boyfriend of his former spouse, consequently escalating the situation.
The ex-husband reportedly produced a knife during this heated encounter and caused a significant cut to the current boyfriend’s face. In the aftermath of the incident, the man who was identified as the culprit swiftly left the scene, leaving behind a state of chaos and distress.
In an unexpected turn of events, just after 2 a.m., a ShotSpotter alert indicated the occurrence of multiple gunshots in the vicinity of the same residence. Upon their arrival, officers assessed the scenario and established that several shots had targeted both the home and a car parked within its premises.
As officers dug deeper into the situation, it was revealed that the ex-husband was responsible for this incident as well. They were informed that the man had returned to the scene, provoked another brawl with those present, and discharged several shots towards both the house and car before departing once more.
Simultaneously, whilst police were actively on-site, victims started to receive ominous text messages from the suspect. The messages, threatening and unsettling in nature, raised concerns of further potential harm.
Owing to the progressive severity of the incidents and the repeated threats, officers initiated a manhunt for the suspect. Their pursuit led them to a residence on the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue. Here, they were responded to another domestic disquiet at around 4 a.m.
As per sources, the suspect was identified within the premises of the Lincoln Avenue residence. This initiated a period of negotiation with the intention of convincing the suspect to leave the property. After an hour and a half of talks, the man finally gave in and exited the property.
With the suspect now out in the open, officers proceeded to arrest him without any interruption or resistance. The suspect was then taken into custody, executing a considerably peaceful end to a rather tumultuous series of events.
In addition, a thorough search of the Lincoln Avenue residence was conducted by the officers. This search led to the uncovering of a loaded .380 handgun, further solidifying the severity of the charges against the suspect.
The man, identified as Paris Smith, has now been formally accused of three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Besides these charges, he is also facing trials for assault, harassment, and aggravated harassment.
Whilst these preliminary charges are substantial, it has been suggested that more claims may be placed against Smith following a detailed discussion with the District Attorney’s Office. This hints at the potential for further developments in what is already a serious case.
In conclusion, this prolonged series of disruptive and violent incidents have resulted in a significant arrest, potentially bringing relief to the victims. As legal proceedings advance, the true extent of Paris Smith’s actions, and their consequences, will further unfold.
