Bernie Sanders Spends $221K on Private Jets During ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ Tour — Says He Has ‘No Apologies’

Senator Bernie Sanders is under fire once again for hypocrisy after it was revealed that he spent more than $221,000 on private jet travel during his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour — a campaign built on denouncing the wealthy elite and warning of climate catastrophe.

While preaching against the ruling class and lecturing Americans on the dangers of carbon emissions, Sanders was jetting across the country in luxury aircraft. The Vermont senator defended the move with no remorse, saying, “You run a campaign and you do three or four or five rallies in a week. The only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people… That’s the only way you can get around. No apologies for that.”

The tour, launched in early 2025 alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, included massive rallies in cities like Denver and Los Angeles. Sanders and AOC attacked income inequality, corporate power, and fossil fuels — even as their own travel produced more emissions in a few weeks than most Americans generate in an entire year.

Critics were quick to pounce on the glaring double standard. The National Republican Congressional Committee slammed the duo as “champagne socialists” who demand working-class Americans give up their pickup trucks and burgers while they soar above it all in private jets costing tens of thousands per hour.

The irony was not lost on the public. While Sanders insists his message is about fighting for the little guy, his lavish travel choices suggest otherwise. The self-proclaimed socialist seems far more comfortable in first class than he is among the very working people he claims to represent.

Even some on the Left have quietly acknowledged the optics disaster, with climate activists questioning the sincerity of climate crusaders who refuse to fly commercial or embrace lower-emission alternatives.

Despite the backlash, Sanders is standing firm. His office has brushed off the criticism as a distraction from “the bigger picture,” but for many Americans, the image of a socialist revolutionary riding high on a six-figure jet tab is the clearest picture of all.
