Authorities have captured 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, the man accused of carrying out one of the most politically charged assassinations in recent American history. Boelter is accused of murdering former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and of attempting to kill State Senator John Hoffman and his wife in coordinated, targeted attacks that rocked the state’s political establishment.
Boelter was found in rural Sibley County after a two-day manhunt involving federal, state, and local agencies. He was armed but surrendered without incident after being surrounded in an open field. Investigators confirmed he had been living out of a vehicle stocked with tactical gear, rifles, and a detailed “hit list” naming over 70 current and former elected officials.
According to officials, Boelter impersonated a police officer using a fake uniform and flashing lights to gain access to the victims’ homes. Both shootings occurred in the early morning hours, within a tight window that investigators believe was carefully premeditated. The suspect reportedly sent apology messages to family members shortly before the attacks but has refused to speak since being taken into custody.
