President Donald Trump stepped in Tuesday to stop what could have been a full-scale Israeli retaliation against Iran, urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stand down after Iran violated the newly agreed ceasefire with missile strikes targeting civilians in Beersheva.
Israeli warplanes were reportedly moments away from launching a major strike on Iran when Trump intervened directly. “DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!” Trump reportedly told Israeli leadership. An hour later, Trump confirmed the aircraft would instead perform a “friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran,” emphasizing that “nobody will be hurt” and the ceasefire remained in effect.
“All planes will turn around and head home… ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran,” Trump posted.
The call between Trump and Netanyahu wasn’t just for show—both leaders confirmed the conversation took place and described it as “firm and clear.” According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, the prime minister agreed to withhold further strikes after Trump expressed appreciation for Israel’s success in achieving its war objectives and conveyed confidence in the ceasefire’s stability.
Despite Trump’s efforts to de-escalate, Israel did conduct a limited strike in what was described as a symbolic “friendly plane wave,” reportedly targeting a radar installation north of Tehran. Israeli journalist Amit Segal said the mission was completed without casualties.
Earlier that morning, Israel had already bombed Iranian positions, killing hundreds of Basij and regime security personnel in retaliation for a prior attack. Iran then responded with a final missile barrage targeting Beersheva just before the ceasefire deadline. At least four civilians were killed and 20 wounded. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of breaking the ceasefire again by firing two additional missiles, which were intercepted over northern Israel.
Katz and Netanyahu initially ordered a major retaliatory strike, authorizing the IDF to target regime sites in central Tehran. “I have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to respond forcefully,” Katz said. IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir echoed the warning, declaring that Israel would attack “with force” following Iran’s ceasefire violations.
Later, President Trump addressed the situation from the White House, offering blunt criticism of both sides. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing,” he told reporters. Trump reiterated his frustration over both nations violating the terms of the ceasefire but held the line to prevent further escalation.
With the airstrike called off and tensions momentarily restrained, the ceasefire remains intact—for now.
