President Donald Trump said Sunday he believes FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is “in good shape” following reports of a heated confrontation between Bongino and Attorney General Pam Bondi over the Epstein files.
“I spoke to him today,” Trump said at Joint Base Andrews. “Dan Bongino, very good guy. I’ve known him a long time. I’ve done his show many, many times. And he sounded terrific actually. No, I think he’s in good shape.”

The comment follows a Friday report that Bongino threatened to leave the bureau if Bondi remained in her post after the DOJ’s controversial statement that it found no proof Epstein had a client list, blackmailed elites, or was murdered. The DOJ’s position sparked major backlash across the MAGA movement, where skepticism about Epstein’s death remains high.
Trump responded forcefully on Saturday, blasting infighting within his administration and declaring strong support for Bondi.
“What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals?’ They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening.”
He dismissed Epstein-related speculation as a distraction pushed by political opponents and urged the movement to stay focused.
“LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT!” Trump continued. “One year ago our Country was DEAD, now it’s the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World. Let’s keep it that way, and not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about.”
Trump and Bondi were seen together Sunday in a VIP suite at the FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey, where the president was photographed giving her a thumbs-up — a clear public sign of continued confidence.

FBI Director Kash Patel also addressed the controversy, dismissing the rumors that he or Bongino were planning to resign. “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been,” Patel posted on X, adding he would continue serving at Trump’s request.
Meanwhile, Democrats on Capitol Hill are moving to stoke the Epstein controversy again. Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) announced he will introduce a measure this week to force a vote to release the full Epstein files.
“Why are the Epstein files still hidden?” Khanna wrote. “The Speaker must call a vote & put every Congress member on record.”
Trump has previously said he’s open to transparency on the files — but is making clear that internal drama over Epstein won’t derail his administration’s priorities.
