In a recent interaction featuring self-styled Gen Z influencer Andrew Callaghan and Hunter Biden, a fleeting notion arose: Is it alright to place this Democrat on the popular Joe Rogan podcast? Joe Biden’s loner son got trapped in the crosshairs of MAGA followers owing to his dubious commercial exploits in Ukraine, his notorious laptop incident, and pardon for tax and firearms offenses granted by the presidential office. Yet, Hunter seems to ooze the MAGA spirit in his demeanor and vocabulary.
During the presidential race last year, Donald Trump’s dialogues with Rogan, Theo Von, and Logan Paul elicited considerable positive response from younger males. As Hunter narrates his drug addiction to Callaghan, one could visualize the same audience empathizing and saying, ‘Cut him some slack’. One of the most applauded feedbacks on this YouTube video came from an individual who was motivated to join rehab following the intense conversation.
Ever since their November collapse, Democrats are puzzled over capturing audience attention and approaching voters who perceive them as weak, distant, and submissive. While the elected representatives have only hesitantly incorporated a bit coarse language in their public discourses, akin to a nervous teenager smoking a joint for the first time, Hunter Biden leaped straight onto strong and eloquent one-liners.
Hunter’s way of expressions and traits uncannily mirror Joe Biden’s, but instead of his father’s ‘malarkey’, Hunter prefers, ‘I don’t have to be nice’. At instances, Hunter seems to voice what his father would have desired to express but couldn’t. It becomes glaringly evident that Republicans don’t hold a monopoly over a gossip-driven belligerent attitude; Democrats and the media are the common victims in both Hunter’s and their cases.
Hunter Biden presently seems to be embarking on a ‘Told you so’ spree. Callaghan interviewed him previously in Delaware. Hunter projects attribute his previous erratic behavior to his darker past and shares an interesting tale where his second wife Melissa brings about his drastic change – she asks him to quit smoking crack, and out of sheer love for her, he does.
The extensive podcast interview format appears to be highly suitable for public figures, as hearing someone’s life journey tends to place listeners on their side. As Hunter maps out his ‘public humiliation’, even marginally sensitive viewers might sympathize with his privacy invasion, and how unpleasant it must be to have your low points publicly spotlighted.
Instead of blowing an additional $20 million over their ‘man problem’, the Democrats should focus on finding a candidate who carries less baggage than Hunter Biden, but with his knack for unabashed, hard-hitting criticism of Republican policies. Maybe they could look for someone obsessed with more socially acceptable drugs or who merely had a relationship with their cousin’s widow.
But this person should also be capable of frankly highlighting Stephen Miller’s weirdness and stand fearless when calling out the greed of Trump’s sons, not worrying about potential charges of hypocrisy. They must even have the guts to voice their support for a two-state solution in the Middle East.
Let’s keep it real here – all this is not just my personal biased view, but it is the objective truth. While it would be more palatable to see Hunter Biden express remorse for his actions and the blight they cast on his father’s presidency, I’d resign myself to see him appear on Joe Rogan’s show.
This appearance could demonstrate to the MAGA-minded voters that the person incessantly associated with multiple conspiracy theories is indeed a flesh and blood individual, not some elusive evil force. Hopefully, if this happens, the negative associations around Joe Biden’s legacy might be softened, or better, subverted in the eyes of MAGA supporters.
