FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said he’s been deeply disturbed by what he has uncovered since taking on his role, calling out the politicization and weaponization of federal law enforcement as worse than he had imagined.
Bongino, who left behind a successful media career to join FBI Director Kash Patel in reforming the Bureau under President Trump, shared his thoughts in a sobering update on X. He promised that ongoing investigations into corruption and abuse of power will continue “by the book,” and that the American people will get the answers they deserve.
“During my tenure here as the Deputy Director of the FBI, I have repeatedly relayed to you that things are happening that might not be immediately visible, but they are happening,” Bongino wrote. “But what I have learned in the course of our properly predicated and necessary investigations… has shocked me down to my core.”
The former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator didn’t offer specific details about the evidence gathered so far, but made clear that what he’s seen has left a permanent impression.
“We cannot run a Republic like this,” he added. “I’ll never be the same after learning what I’ve learned.”
Bongino emphasized that the investigations currently underway are aimed squarely at rooting out corruption and dismantling the network of political bias that plagued federal agencies during prior administrations.
“The Director and I are committed to stamping out public corruption and the political weaponization of both law enforcement and intelligence operations. It is a priority for us.”
He also made it clear that this isn’t about political vengeance — it’s about restoring integrity.
“We are going to conduct these righteous and proper investigations by the book and in accordance with the law. We are going to get the answers WE ALL DESERVE,” Bongino said. “As with any investigation, I cannot predict where it will land, but I can promise you an honest and dignified effort at truth. Not ‘my truth,’ or ‘your truth,’ but THE TRUTH.”
The FBI under Trump has faced growing scrutiny from within, with Patel and Bongino pledging to overhaul the Bureau’s leadership, internal guidelines, and oversight procedures. Sources close to the agency say several top-level investigations are already underway, including reviews of past surveillance abuses, politically motivated prosecutions, and the suppression of whistleblowers.
Bongino’s remarks are the strongest signal yet that the Trump administration is preparing to take action against entrenched elements inside the federal government that previously targeted conservatives and interfered in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
