President Donald Trump delivered a blistering critique of wind energy during a joint appearance Sunday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, declaring that his administration would not permit a single new wind turbine to be built in the United States.
Speaking from his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland — with a backdrop of wind turbines visible from the course — Trump hammered the industry as inefficient, environmentally harmful, and dominated by Chinese manufacturing. The president spared no punches, slamming wind power as a “con job” that has ruined landscapes, raised energy prices, and left Western nations more dependent on foreign adversaries.
“We will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States,” Trump stated flatly. “They’re killing us. They’re killing the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains. It’s the most expensive form of energy. It’s no good. They’re made in China — almost all of them — and they’re absolutely terrible for the environment.”
Trump made the remarks as von der Leyen — a staunch advocate of green energy and renewable transition policies — sat beside him. Germany, her home country, has been grappling with surging energy prices amid its so-called “Energiewende” program, which seeks to replace nuclear and fossil fuel power with solar and wind energy. Trump has previously criticized Germany’s policies for making the country dependent on foreign energy and for failing to deliver reliable power.
“In all fairness, Germany tried it, and wind doesn’t work,” Trump said. “You need subsidy for wind, and energy should not need subsidy. With energy, you make money. You don’t lose money. This whole industry is a scam pushed by environmental hacks and bureaucrats.”

The president went on to describe how his round of golf at Turnberry was marred by the sight of nine turbines cluttering the otherwise pristine landscape.
“You have the same thing all over Europe. Some countries are waking up and prohibiting it, but others just keep putting up these monstrosities,” Trump said. “They’re environmentally unsound. They kill birds, they leak oil, and worst of all — they destroy the land and ocean views that people travel from all over the world to enjoy.”
Trump’s long-running feud with wind turbines in Scotland dates back to 2011, when he fought to block a wind farm off the coast of his Trump International Golf Links near Aberdeen. At the time, he warned Scottish leadership that the turbines would tarnish the nation’s historic coastline. That battle escalated into a lengthy legal dispute, which Trump ultimately lost — but his opposition to wind energy only intensified in the years since.
“I warned Scotland about this a long time ago,” Trump said Sunday. “Now you can’t play a round of golf without looking out and seeing these ridiculous spinning eyesores.”
While von der Leyen offered no direct rebuttal to Trump’s remarks, her body language was visibly stiff throughout the president’s diatribe. Trump, undeterred, continued to press the issue, arguing that America’s energy future lies in nuclear, natural gas, and clean fossil fuels — not windmills “made in Chinese factories.”
As the Trump administration finalizes major energy and trade agreements across Europe and Asia, the president made clear that the United States will not be bullied into adopting failed green energy policies pushed by global elites.
“The American people don’t want it. I don’t want it. And under my leadership, we will not allow these towers of trash to scar our beautiful land,” Trump concluded. “If Europe wants windmills, that’s their mistake. We’re going in a different direction — one that actually works.”
