Authorities from Stevens Point have issued a public request to aid in tracking down a duo believed to have been involved in a recent ATM theft. The pair presumably utilized a stolen vehicle to cause damage to an ATM machine and subsequently steal the cash held within.
The crime occurred on July 23, as reported by the police. In an early morning investigation, officers discovered an abandoned pickup in the middle of the road a little before 5 a.m.
The owners of the deserted truck were successfully tracked down, shedding light that the vehicle had, in fact, been unlawfully taken the previous night. The truck was of a make and model commonly involved in ATM thefts in several Wisconsin cities during the earlier parts of July.
Following this lead, the police began the search for any possibly affected ATM stations. Soon, one such machine was located at a credit union on the eastern side of Stevens Point.
Security cameras stationed at the credit union site enabled the authorities to view the crime as it unfolded. The footage distinctly captured the stolen vehicle’s arrival into the drive-thru, followed by the exit of two men clad in dark, unidentifiable clothing.
Equipped with gloves, masks and other concealing gear, they began to pry a section of the ATM with what appeared to be large hooks and chains. A portion of the ATM was forcefully opened using the stolen vehicle, from which the cash reserves were hastily removed.
According to law enforcement, the robbers successfully made off with a sum of approximately $14,560. Their endeavors also inflicted around $5,000 worth of damages on the ATM machine, all within a span of approximately two and a half minutes.
In light of these events, Stevens Point Police are renewing their appeal to the public for any assistance in identifying or locating the suspects. Once again, the duo is believed to have used a stolen vehicle, which was subsequently involved in the ATM theft.
Considering the similar crimes reported recently, both locally and nationally, police are convinced that this incident is not an isolated one. There might well be a pattern weaving through these incidents, hinting at a broader conspiracy.
In fact, this is only one of a series, with at least three such incidents reported from the region in just the month of July. Accompanying the Stevens Point case are ATM thefts noted in Baraboo and Mauston earlier in the month.
The investigators have reasons to believe that these criminal acts aren’t native to Stevens Point. The local police force has ruled out the possibility of the culprits being local, surmising that they are likely a part of a more extensive, nationwide crime chain not based in Wisconsin.
In the pursuit of evidence and any possible leads, the police are once again calling upon the public. The past crimes related to this case have often left behind traces or elements associated with the crime in close proximity to the crime scene.
Possible remnants of the crime might include articles such as clothing, masks, gloves, chains, hooks, or even parts of the ATM machine itself. Therefore, careful observation and communication of any suspicious elements become key in resolving this case.
In essence, if anyone encounters anything that could be associated with this criminal act, the local police department welcomes their input. It’s not only about solving this crime but potentially cracking a wider, more widespread crime operation.
The collective vigilance of the community coupled with diligent law enforcement efforts could be the turning point in this situation. Responsible citizen involvement and cooperation can be instrumental in rectifying these breaches of peace and security.
The occurrences of such crimes aren’t just a local concern; it’s a matter affecting numerous communities across the nation. Therefore, the Stevens Point case isn’t just about catching these suspects, it’s about understanding and combating a criminal trend at a larger scale.
