Trump Says Nancy Pelosi Should Be Investigated For Insider Trading: ‘That’s Disgraceful’

President Donald Trump called for an investigation into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday, accusing her of making a fortune through insider trading while serving in Congress.

Speaking at a White House press conference, Trump zeroed in on the massive gains reported by Pelosi and her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, whose trades reportedly outperformed almost every major hedge fund in 2024.

“You know, Nancy Pelosi became rich by having inside information,” Trump said. “She made a fortune with her husband, and I think that’s disgraceful. And what I do think is Nancy Pelosi should be investigated, because she has the highest return of anybody practically in the history of Wall Street, save a few.”

Trump continued, “How did that happen? It happened because she knows exactly what’s gonna happen, what’s gonna be announced, she buys stock, and then the stock goes up after the announcement’s made. And she ought to be investigated.”

Pelosi, who has long denied any wrongdoing, brushed off Trump’s remarks during a CNN interview, calling the accusations “ridiculous.” She claimed she supports banning stock trading for members of Congress, while distancing herself from the family’s investments.

“I’m not into it, my husband is, but it isn’t anything to do with anything insider,” Pelosi said.

The comments came just hours after a Senate panel advanced legislation led by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) to ban members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents from trading individual stocks. The bill, originally aimed at lawmakers and their spouses, gained Democrat support after Hawley added the executive branch to the scope of the ban.

Trump initially said he “conceptually” supported the bill, but later criticized Hawley for siding with Democrats on the committee vote. Trump accused Hawley of helping block a Republican-backed amendment from Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) that would have forced a comprehensive review of Pelosi’s trading activity over the past 25 years.

Pelosi herself expressed support for the bill, saying in a statement, “We must have strong transparency, robust accountability and tough enforcement for financial conduct in office because the American people deserve confidence that their elected leaders are serving the public interest — not their personal portfolios.”

With the Senate now holding a 53-seat GOP majority, the bill is expected to reach a floor vote. Whether it survives intact or faces further amendments remains to be seen, especially as Trump and many Republicans insist that Pelosi’s financial dealings be scrutinized before any trading bans are enacted.

Trump’s call to investigate Pelosi is just the latest in a broader push from his administration to crack down on perceived corruption in Washington. As the stock trading ban bill gains momentum, scrutiny over Pelosi’s past trades — and the political pressure to hold her accountable — is likely to intensify.
