Starz to Launch Documentary Highlighting Atlanta Club Magic City’s Influence

On August 15, Starz is set to unveil a quintuple feature documentary titled Magic City: An American Fantasy. This series offers a detailed account of the ascend and trials of the legendary Atlanta adult entertainment venue. A freshly released trailer features endorsements from famous personalities like Drake, Shaquille O’Neal, Big Boi, 2 Chainz, Nelly, T.I., and Jermaine Dupri, the executive producer of Magic City, recounting the considerable influence the establishment wielded on their personal and professional lives as well as its overarching influence on American society.

‘It stands as one of the marvels of the world’, Drake reveres in the trailer. He further testifies to how Magic City turned into a breeding ground for people and Black music to thrive. Covering a timeline from 1979 to 2025, the documentary pledges to bring to light the undisclosed anecdotes of one of Atlanta’s most critical African-American sociocultural centers.

Jermaine Dupri highlights the popularity of Magic City in Atlanta by drawing a parallel to a well-known tourist spot. ‘One wouldn’t visit Atlanta without a stop at Magic City, just like a visit to Orlando would remain incomplete without a tour of Disney World’, he states.

Quavo of Migos is of the view that the existence of his band would not have been possible if not for Magic City. Similarly, Big Boi expresses his certainty that the success of Outkast’s 2000 track ‘B.O.B.’ would have been improbable without the reception it secured at this club.

On the other hand, basketball superstar, Shaquille O’Neal reveals an exciting piece of his life, stating that he inked a deal worth $120 million within the club’s premises. Of course, the trailer does not shy away from showing the more visually captivating aspects of the club, with scenes of dancers, scantily dressed, performing energetic dance moves and aerial tricks.

However, the trailer does not just focus on the grandeur and influence of this famous American adult entertainment venue. It delves deeper, recounting the darker aspects of the club’s history. More specifically, it explores the saga of crime and peril that lurked in its corners, often leading to interactions with law enforcement.

Highlighting this aspect, Magic City’s founder, Michael Barney, has previously spoken about the shifting nightlife policy in Atlanta. This policy revision could enforce new security protocols for local club owners, raising challenges for these establishments.

Barney opens up about the complexity of managing the venue, stating, ‘We can’t control the type of clientele that visit our establishment. Our doors are open for everyone to enter and experience the Magic City. Even when we put our lives at risk trying to regulate the behavior of unruly patrons.’
