Their love story began in 2017 and over the course of eight years, they had two kids together. Kelley Lorraine recently went public about her ongoing separation from her spouse, Luis Joel. On July 17, the digital creator confessed that she had parted ways with her husband and a divorce was forthcoming. ‘It’s heartbreaking to share this news, but after giving it a lot of thought and many hard conversations, my husband and I have decided to separate and are on the path to divorce,’ Lorraine narrated in a video she uploaded, alluding to the challenging period she had faced during recent months.
A couple of weeks further into August, specifically on the 6th, Lorraine kept her close-knit digital family updated with another emotional post. She wrote ‘Some days are exceptionally difficult. We are on the path to divorce and I understand that it’s best for us.’
The couple, despite their 16-year age difference, began their romantic journey in 2017. Amidst the budding weeks of their relationship, a catastrophe struck. Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico, the home of Joel’s three kids from a previous relationship, plunging their lives into uncertainty.
Joel recounted those dire moments, ‘The place where my kids stayed was entirely ruined and there was no way to get in touch with them. I spent over a month in agony, not knowing whether they had survived the storm. Finally being able to get in contact was an indescribably relieving moment.’
Lorraine was the one who suggested that Joel bring his children to live with them. Though Joel was initially hesitant to place such a burden on their relationship so soon, Lorraine insisted on supporting him in this endeavor. She even took it upon herself to purchase the plane tickets for the kids, confirming her commitment to Joel and his children.
According to Lorraine, ‘I was aware from the outset that Joel had older kids. If I was going to commit to him, I understood that we’d have to consider future plans and growth.’ That understanding proved to be a blessing in disguise.
Merging their families proved to be a challenge as Joel’s children, who were 17, 14, and 12 at the time, had to adapt to the major shift from Puerto Rico to the mainland United States.
In the following eight years, the couple not only got hitched but also welcomed two children of their own. They shared their life’s journey with their online followers, resulting in substantial growth of their social media presence. Their shared content reflected a blend of family updates, humorous skits, and their frequent show-ups at Hollywood premieres.
In light of her recent separation, Kelley shared, ‘I am navigating through life one day at a time and trying to establish a new norm for the future.’
On July 23, a few days after declaring her divorce, Kelley shared a heartfelt video with her good friend Ana Carina, expressing gratitude for their friendship. ‘Any hurdle in life can be overcome with the presence of a single, genuine friend by your side’, she wrote, hinting at the invaluable support that her friend had provided during these testing times.
She added, ‘Unknown to us, there was a reason why destiny intertwined our paths. I believe it sensed that we would need each other’s support through our journey.’
