A mother who recently lost her son in a drive-by shooting in Washington, DC, voiced a profound petition on Thursday, expressing her concern about the rising crime in the city and the unending sorrow that haunts her family. In her words, Tamara Tarpinian-Jachym expresses, ‘Life as we knew it will never return.’ Her son, 21-year-old intern Eric, was tragically killed after multiple gunshot wounds on June 30, and passed away the subsequent day in a local hospital.
‘The anguish is so profound, my husband wishes he could have intercepted those bullets aimed at our son,’ reminisced Tamara, emphasizing the depth of their despair. At the time of the unfortunate incident, Eric maintained a temporary residence in Washington, DC, committed to his internship under the guidance of Representative Ron Estes.
The fatal shooting event, as mentioned by law enforcement, wasn’t meant for Eric, but inadvertently cost him his life. The gunfire left two others injured: a sixteen-year-old boy and a woman of an undisclosed age. According to Tamara, law enforcement authorities haven’t arrested any suspects at the moment. She believes that the teenage boy was possibly the intended target.
Tamara issued a strong call to action towards the city’s municipal officials, urging them to stop ‘shielding’ offenders. Instead, she advocates for stern law enforcement methods that prioritize the welfare and safety of Washington D.C.’s residents, visitors, and those employed in the city.
The young intern, Eric, was gravely wounded multiple times during the incident on June 30. The likelihood of federal intervention in the nation’s capital’s leadership was hinted at by former President Trump, suggesting such action unless significant changes are made.
Responding to this idea, Tamara stated emphatically that a positive transformation is imperative. ‘The council of the D.C area needs to buckle down and get their act together. I have my doubts whether that will ever happen, but I remain hopeful that a change should and will come around. The prevailing crime has become untenable. Gang violence is rampant, and if left unchecked, the assaults and homicides will only continue to increase’, she remarked.
She strongly urged the city’s policymakers to stand against violent offenders. ‘We’re talking about our nation’s capital here,’ Tamara emphasized in her plea. ‘This location should top the list as the most secure in the entire country.’
‘Every other state should use it as a safety model,’ Tamara added. ‘This terrifying state of affairs within the US is truly alarming.’ Tamara’s plea for stricter crime enforcement policies and safer streets in Washington, DC, and across the US is a heartbreaking reminder of the impacts of crime on individuals and families.
