Rubio Hits Media Over Gaza Narrative, Says Some Allies Making It Harder To Achieve Peace

Secretary of State Marco Rubio took aim at both the media and some of America’s allies Thursday, accusing them of distorting the narrative around the war in Gaza and emboldening Hamas through misguided diplomatic moves.

Speaking with Raymond Arroyo on “The World Over,” Rubio outlined what he called the “three problems” that must be addressed simultaneously to achieve lasting peace — and argued that media coverage is lopsided, focusing almost exclusively on humanitarian concerns while ignoring hostage conditions and the ongoing threat posed by Hamas.

“The humanitarian problem is real and the U.S. is ready to help deliver food, medicine, and aid,” Rubio said. “But there are also 20 innocent people still being held hostage in tunnels, starving — and almost no one in the mainstream media is covering that. And as long as Hamas exists as an armed organization, there will never be peace in Gaza.”

Rubio blasted Hamas as a terrorist group whose sole mission is to “destroy Israel” and “drive every Jew out of the Middle East,” saying that they have no interest in compromise and will continue fighting as long as they are armed and operational.

The Secretary of State also warned that diplomatic gestures like France’s recent announcement that it will unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state — along with similar threats from other countries — are playing directly into Hamas’ hands.

“If I’m Hamas, I conclude, ‘Let’s not do a ceasefire. We can be rewarded and claim it as a victory,’” Rubio said. “These symbolic moves actually make it harder to reach a deal and embolden Hamas.”

He noted that the Arab League itself has called for Hamas’ removal, but warned that simply recognizing Palestinian statehood without first securing leadership that is not controlled by Hamas would lead straight back to war.

“They can’t define borders or leadership. Israel turned over Gaza before — with greenhouses and infrastructure — and Hamas destroyed it all and built tunnels instead of hospitals,” Rubio said. “Unilateral recognition now is not a step toward peace; it’s a reward for terrorism.”

Rubio’s comments come as some European allies push forward with symbolic recognitions and as Hamas continues to reject meaningful concessions in ceasefire talks, banking instead on winning what he described as a “global PR war.”
