Swiss Government Initiates Dialogue with Pharma Giants Amid US Tariffs

The Swiss government has initiated a dialogue with domestic pharmaceutical giants Roche Holding AG and Novartis AG, a source disclosed, following the imposition of the steepest US tariffs seen by developed nations on Switzerland. Top officials namely Economy Minister Guy Parmelin and Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider are set to conduct a pivotal meeting with high-ranking executives of these firms, intended to address the future trajectory of the Swiss pharma sector.

In addition, the discussion would also encompass the participation of other pharmaceutical manufacturers, as mentioned in a media report. At present, the pharmaceutical industry has been spared from Trump’s tariffs. Yet, this may be subject to change in the near future, given the president’s inclination towards introducing policies for this sector within the coming weeks.

“The pertinent departments keep up consistent interaction with all industries, inclusive of the pharmaceutical sector,” a representative for the Interior Ministry disclosed to Bloomberg in an email statement. They also corroborated the scheduled talks, “Plan for discussions are in order amidst the present scenario.”

The meeting is expected to take place post summer vacations, a newspaper has reportedly stated. Translated, it could mean that once the government concludes its recess this Wednesday, they could potentially convene as soon as the ongoing month.
