Trump’s Approval Rating Spikes Amid Ukraine Peacemaking Efforts, New Poll Finds

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has surged following his high-profile push for peace in Ukraine, with new polling showing him above water nationally and gaining ground in key demographics.

A fresh InsiderAdvantage survey conducted August 15–17 found that 54% of Americans now approve of Trump’s job performance, while 44% disapprove. Trump posted majority approval in all age groups except seniors over 65. Among voters 18–39 and 39–64, he garnered 57% approval. Support also climbed among black and Hispanic voters, a development analyst Matt Towery called significant.

The uptick in support comes on the heels of Trump’s Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, followed by a White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders. This week’s talks contrasted with Zelensky’s rocky prior Oval Office visit, with both sides signaling progress toward ending the war.

Trump hailed the Putin summit as “very productive,” saying the two sides narrowed their disagreements and moved closer to a peace deal. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff disclosed that Putin made an unprecedented concession, opening the door for Western nations to provide NATO-style security guarantees for Ukraine in a final settlement. “It was the first time we had ever heard the Russians agree” to such a proposal, Witkoff told CNN.

InsiderAdvantage’s poll cuts against the grain of many recent surveys, including a Pew Research Center poll earlier this month that had Trump at just 38% approval. But InsiderAdvantage’s track record is notable: the firm has been rated least-biased by Media Bias and ranked by RealClearPolitics among the top ten most accurate general election pollsters between 2014 and 2022.

Trump’s peace-first posture is resonating with voters weary of foreign entanglements and drawn to his argument that Zelensky and Putin must strike a deal rather than drag the conflict on indefinitely. With a majority of Americans now signaling approval, the president appears to be reaping political rewards from his foreign policy gambit.
