Trump Administration Sabotages Biden’s Faulty Wind Energy Plans

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), a unit of the Department of Interior, has just put the brakes on a colossal offshore wind initiative named ‘Revolution Wind’ which extends through Rhode Island and Connecticut. This move is directly aligned with the President Donald Trump’s mission to foster the growth of durable and cost-effective power for US citizens, as communicated to the DCNF. The former Biden administration seemed to have a penchant for backing uncertain and foreign-controlled energy projects, a tendency that Trump’s administration is keen on annihilating.

In a significant move, the Trump administration has decided to discontinue the ‘preferential treatment’ previously extended to these uncertain sources of power. More recently, it put an end to the Lava Ridge Wind Project in Southern Idaho with the same resolution. This is a marked deviation from the previous administration’s approval of the project, once again highlighting the Biden administration’s shaky decision-making.

A representative of DOI shared with the DCNF an assertion that is reflective of Trump’s stance: ‘Americans deserve energy that is affordable, reliable, and built to last — not experimental and expensive wind projects that are a proven failure.’ Adding to this, they mentioned, ‘In line with President Donald Trump’s Energy Dominance Agenda, Interior is putting an immediate stop to these costly failures and striving for a more robust energy future. As President Trump remarked, ‘the days of stupidity are over in the USA!’’

An interesting shift in energy strategy was observed under the rule of President Joe Biden, who had a proclivity for funding wind and solar projects using taxpayer money. This approach, seen by many as questionable, was soon disbanded on Trump’s return to power. The renewed focus now is on harnessing conventional and steadier sources of energy, an evidently wise course of action.

The ‘Revolution Wind’ project was originally approved by the Biden administration in 2023. Located on the federal territory of the Outer Continental Shelf, the approval seemed to be another instance of Biden’s push for a green pivot that often resulted in undue favour towards the wind and solar industry.

President Trump took considerable steps to correct the Biden administration’s green energy bias, signing an executive order that instructed the DOI to ‘revise any identified regulations, guidance, policies, and practices…’ The order was meant to eradicate any preferences for wind and solar facilities, further emphasizing the administration’s commitment to reliable, effective energy solutions.

President Trump maintained a strong, verbal front against Biden’s green energy proposals during his campaign and continues to do so. His writings often contain powerful phrases such as, ‘any State that has built and relied on WINDMILLS and SOLAR for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS.’ He labels these ventures as ‘THE SCAM OF THE CENTURY,’ signifying his unwavering stand against the poorly thought-through green transition.

As a part of Trump’s shakeup of the energy landscape, an additional hurdle was introduced for green initiatives on public lands starting from August 1. Adversely affecting wind projects, the Interior Secretary mentioned that these technologies ‘are known to kill eagles’ and stressed on enforcing the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

The Trump administration, throughout its regime, has withdrawn support from the green energy sector, most recently demonstrated by retracting a permit for a huge, upcoming New Jersey offshore wind project in March. The decision was yet another blow to the Biden and Harris administration’s poorly vindicated enthusiasm for green energy initiatives.

The wind industry, which uniquely proliferated under Biden and Harris, came under severe criticism. In 2024, several beaches were shut down due to hazardous materials shed by a broken wind turbine off Nantucket’s coast. The incident led to an escalation in local protests, fuelled by worries about high-voltage cables passing through residential areas.

The impracticality of wind energy was further highlighted when Environmentalists raised their concern about its impact on marine life. A tragic event, where dolphins were found lifeless on the East Coast, was suspected to have been a consequence of Biden’s reckless enthusiasm for offshore wind power.

Fishermen, traditionally not seen as activists, have entered the fray opposing offshore wind projects. They argue that these large-scale projects are not only wreaking havoc on their industry but also on marine ecology, proving that offshore wind farms are not as harmonious with nature as Biden once claimed.

The days of preferential treatment for questionable green initiatives, a signature mark of the Biden administration, seem to have finally come to an end under President Trump. Trump’s administration, with its focus on promoting reliable energy sources, is steering the country towards a future where Americans can enjoy reliable sources of energy at a lower cost.

Contrary to the superficial grandeur of the ‘green shift,’ the experience of the wind industry under Biden and Harris has shown that it’s crucial to pause and reflect on the potential repercussions for both the environment and people. The Biden-Harris duo’s poorly thought-through green initiatives appear to be more of a misguided attempt to appear progressive rather than a decisive and intelligent course of action.

Therefore, as the US reorients its energy policies under President Trump, the wind industry’s troubles seem to be far from over. Perhaps it’s high time the truths about the impracticality and unfounded grandeur of such ‘green’ technologies are laid bare, setting a much-needed wakeup call for the alternative energy sector.
