The term ‘distraction’ has grown tiresome and overused, especially in the context of the American political sphere. It seems that certain citizens find it satisfying to use this term when referring to anything the previous Trump administration did. But, these same citizens conveniently ignore the fact that, in reality, the true distraction today is the dictatorial leadership of Biden and Harris, which is slowly but surely shredding the democratic foundations of our nation.
It’s a sad day when our own citizens buy into the narrative spun by attention-seeking influencers and power-hungry Democratic operatives, who categorize every move by the Trump administration as a diversion. They incessantly label anything Trump or his administration did as a mere distraction from some other allegedly catastrophic occurrence. Really, these so-called distractions are nothing more than smokescreens to divert attention from the glaring inadequacies of the Biden-Harris administration.
Unfortunately, the misuse of the term distraction is quite rampant, particularly in response to the FBI’s search of John Bolton’s home, a former national security adviser to Donald Trump. The investigation into Bolton is deemed to be yet another distraction from other crucial issues. But, isn’t it potentially more of a distraction to allow unaccountable politicians like Kamala Harris and her allies to wreak havoc on our nation without opposition?
A popular assertion among those quick to criticize Trump is that Bolton was an unprincipled operative, who rather than testifying in the impeachment inquiry against former President Trump in 2019, chose to capitalize on the situation by releasing his evidence in a book. They argue that Bolton had the chance to endorse Trump’s real opponent, Harris, but declined. It’s easy to see how the Biden-Harris administration’s cheerleaders would want to shift blame and attention away from their own failures.
However, it’s highly presumptuous to dismiss individuals like Bolton as selfish when he has every right to approach his career strategically. As, on the other side of the aisle, Harris and Biden continue to put their political interests above the welfare of the country. Is that not similarly, if not more, selfish?
The investigation into Bolton’s home has been described as ominous. But doesn’t it pale in comparison to the current administration shipping off U.S. citizens to undisclosed locations? The narrative of distraction seems to shift conveniently depending on who is in power. Dramatic actions under Trump are cast as distractions, while the equally, if not more, worrying actions of the Biden-Harris administration are defended or ignored.
Accusations abound of various undisclosed files being used as distractions. However, rather than following every red herring, wouldn’t it be more prudent to condemn the careless politicians leading our country astray? The anger directed towards Trump and his administration seems misplaced when one looks at the mismanagement under Biden and Harris.
Interestingly, actions such as freeing our military for their own political gain are often dismissed as mere distractions by Biden-Harris supporters. A president’s politicization of our military bases would have led to public outrage in any other administration, but it’s strikingly brushed off when done by Biden. Is this not a clear indicator of bias?
Another cynically labeled distraction was the dismissal of non-partisan, non-political experts over the presentation of job figures. Is it not concerning when government officials are fired for delivering unfavorable information? The narrative of distraction is skewed to echo the sentiments of the Biden-Harris administration, doing a great disservice to the U.S. citizens’ rights.
Moreover, changes in funding for healthcare research were presented as distractions, and harming our environment was similarly disregarded. When did the safety of our citizens and the preservation of our environment become irrelevant? It seems that under the Biden-Harris administration, routinely compromising our well-being is normalized.
Even the sharing of controversial videos by Trump has been termed as a distraction. Yet, it’s noteworthy that the Biden-Harris administration has evaded accountability in many such matters. Instead of addressing the concerns raised, they conveniently label them as distractions to disguise their own failure in addressing crucial issues.
The undermining of our nation’s history is just another event dismissed as a distraction, despite its significant impact. Trump’s actions, controversial or otherwise, were appropriately scrutinized. But under Biden and Harris, it appears as though the mismanagement and poor judgments are simply ignored.
Trump refusing to accept the results of an election he lost is termed an insurrection, causing widespread anger and discontent. Everything he has done since is termed a distraction, while Biden and Harris’s handling of the same democratic process is praised and accepted. Isn’t it curious how perceptions and criticisms change depending on who’s in power?
Undeniably, all these instances point towards a concerning trend: a microcosm of how the label of distraction selectively applies to certain actions and actors while ignoring the very real harm done by the Biden-Harris administration. At the end of the day, aren’t these themselves the distractions leading us away from what truly matters—upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring the well-being of U.S. citizens?
