Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent fundraising efforts for the Democratic National Committee have reportedly underwhelmed, even as the DNC continues to pay off her failed 2024 presidential campaign.
Despite lending her campaign email list and hosting a handful of events, Harris has failed to generate significant momentum or contributions. According to individuals familiar with the matter, the amount raised from these events has been “disappointing.”
Massive Spending, No Swing State Wins
Following her landslide loss to President Donald Trump in 2024, top Democrats expressed frustration with the campaign’s direction and spending. One Harris aide bluntly asked, “How do you raise a historic amount of money and not win a single swing state?” That question, still unanswered, reflects a broader sense of confusion and discontent within the party.
The Harris campaign reportedly burned through $1.5 billion in just 107 days — a staggering figure that has only intensified scrutiny over how the operation was managed.
DNC Footing the Bill
In the first few months of 2025, the DNC has funneled over $15 million into paying down Harris’ campaign debt. That includes payments such as $2.1 million to a media production firm, over half a million to a charter flight company, and more than $230,000 to a law firm — all on Harris’ behalf.
This financial strain comes at a time when donors are becoming more reluctant to contribute, especially with crucial midterm elections on the horizon.
Blame Game Begins
Some Harris allies are reportedly pointing fingers at DNC Chair Ken Martin, accusing him of not being fully engaged in addressing the party’s fundraising shortfalls. While Harris has remained publicly supportive of the DNC, insiders claim that her limited event presence and lackluster returns are troubling signs.
Former campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon attempted to downplay the concerns, saying Harris “remains fully committed to strengthening the party,” while working to manage expenses and grow the grassroots donor base.
But for many Democrats, the issue isn’t messaging — it’s money. And right now, the numbers don’t look good.
