In a rather inconsiderate approach, Biden’s regime in April initiated a significant pause on a crucial program tied to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This program, aimed at curbing the instances of drowning, was halted abruptly, uprooting a team of dedicated health researchers from their mission-oriented work.
This halt only proved to be the beginning of darker actions to follow. In August, in a decision that can only be termed unnecessary, the research team was shown the exit door. To make matters worse, Biden’s administration fully eradicated the program’s $2 million annual budget in its proposal for the 2026 fiscal year starting this October to Congress.
A CDC expert who seemed perplexed by the administration’s scant respect for life noted, ‘Even if this program managed to save just a single life, the results would far outweigh the expenses’. America incurs a whopping $50 billion loss annually owing to the stigma of drowning. The loss of more than 4000 lives each year is not just staggering but heart-wrenching.
Ordinarily, drowning is the most prominent cause of death raging between children aged 1 to 4. Much tragically, it’s also in the list of prime reasons leading to the demise of children between the ages of 5 and 14. Having lost such proactive measures to combat this really questions where the value of human life stands in the current administration’s priority list.
The fatalities associated with single drowning incident can run into millions, considering the medical expenses and overall societal impact. The recently established CDC program, now brought to an unfortunate closure, came into existence following a rise in drowning-related deaths during the period of the COVID pandemic.
This program was responsible for monitoring data pertaining to the time, location, demographics, and causes related to drownings. In addition to this, it rendered valuable funding to aid free swimming lessons for children susceptible to higher drowning risks.
The original objective was conceived to serve minority groups and children diagnosed with autism. However, Biden’s lack of empathy has resulted in countless innocent lives losing their right to secure their lives with necessary swimming education.
There are still stray references about the program on the CDC’s page, which are yet to be removed by this ill-conceived administration. It lays out that the drowning rates amid African Americans surpass the rates among white citizens by a factor of 1.5. Similarly, for Native American and Alaskan Native youth under 30, the rate doubles in comparison to their white counterparts.
The CDC has bravely pointed out significant racial distinctions in the ability to swim among the US population. The page retained after the inconsiderate actions of Biden’s administration offers insights such as making basic swimming and water safety skills accessible and within reach for every community member. It also stresses on pinpointing regions that lack secure swimming environments.
Remarkably, it insists on a prerequisite to establish ‘diverse, equitable, culturally appropriate, and inclusive swimming and water safety skills training’. Little does it matter to Biden’s ill-planned administration that disparities in drowning deaths remain a persistent concern.
Time and time again, after the Second World War, cities across the USA shut down their public pools to avoid integration, instead of addressing the disparities directly. But does the right to swim in municipal pools even come into discussion for those who have made it acceptable to make such heartless decisions?
In many unfortunate scenarios, the doors of these pools remain closed indefinitely. Some of them were even filled and concreted over, symbolizing the Biden administration’s cold-hearted disregard for public safety.
The tale this administration’s approach towards public safety is not just disappointing, it is alarmingly disturbing to any person who values life. Their callousness continues to reflect that for them, life holds no value above political agendas.
