However, this unusual security extension was promptly cancelled by President Trump, putting an abrupt end to Biden’s plan.
So, what’s so different about this disarray? Former politicians have had the pleasure of extended Secret Service coverage including home security. However, they were not the current vice president serving under a president who seems to bend rules for convenience. This change of protection was seen as ‘special accommodation’ that easily drew criticism; it almost seems as if Biden attempted to create a different class within the political circle.
The drama didn’t stop there. Following the closure of her special Secret Service protection, Harris experienced the next blow when she was assigned an LAPD detail to guard her lavish Brentwood home. However, due to severe public backlash from inflamed taxpayers, this arrangement was soon abandoned.
The LAPD pulled their dedicated security for Harris, triggering a flurry of conversation around the misuse of police officers. This action came after a matter of days, marking the end of uproar regarding removing officers from their regular duties to provide extra service for her opulent Brentwood residence.
The act of deploying LA police officers to provide security for a wealthy politician stirred quite a storm among Californians. As taxpayers, they found themselves burdened with the cost of her preferential treatment. It’s evident to the general public that Harris can afford her own security; however, the absurdity of this scenario kept growing.
Feedback from within the LAPD only added to the turmoil. The Los Angeles Police Protective League, representative of the officers in the force, openly criticized the allocation of city resources in favor of Harris. Their angry response highlighted the absurdity of rerouting everyday LAPD officers for the protection of a failed presidential candidate who is also capable of financing her own security.
The LAPD League didn’t mince words when expressing their disdain. Their statement even challenged Mayor Karen Bass to step in and have a word with Governor Newsom. They suggested that, if he wants to appease Harris and her influential circle of donors, he should personally bear the financial burden instead of offloading it onto the taxpayers of LA.
It almost seemed like a chain of one event leading another, with Harris stuck in the middle of a seemingly unending debacle. Caught amidst this fiasco, she is on the brink of initiating a self- and book-promoting tour. But, given the current state of affairs, this promotional move could potentially add more fuel to the fire.
Interestingly enough, three months before an assassination attempt on President Trump, there was a discussion among Democrats suggesting that he should be stripped of Secret Service Protection. Some might claim that the situation is ironic, given what eventually unfolded for Vice President Harris.
Post the assassination attempt, there were more murmurs among the political circles about taking away Trump’s Secret Service protection. Meanwhile, Harris had her own protection expelled by President Trump. It seemed like, in a universe of political vendettas, the Secret Service was a casualty.
In an era where showmanship often taking precedence over substance, the act of having Harris paraded around upscale shops with Secret Service escorts became a contentious issue. The public saw it as a misuse of their hard-earned tax dollars. Many viewed this as a perfect illustration of the misplaced priorities at a political level.

To sum it up, U.S. tax dollars should be used efficiently, solely for the betterment of citizens, and not for the protection of politicians who can afford their own security. This way, a sense of fairness will prevail in the governing of resources, opposed to the current scenario where preferential treatment appears to be the order of the day.
