Designer Brands Inc. Experiences Major Boost in Women’s Footwear Sales

Designer Brands Inc., a major shoe provider, is exhibiting signs of significant progress, according to CEO Doug Howe. A major boost in the sale of women’s footwear, showing a rise of nine hundred basis points within the quarter, is one of the key indicators. Howe also highlighted an increase in the retailer’s attention to the back-to-school season advertising as part of the noteworthy developments.

This tactical approach aimed to underscore the company’s standing as a go-to outlet for consumer needs. The positive response from patrons was not only seen in the recent past but has continued to be experienced in the months that followed. This upward trend has led to more frequent comparable improvements, a fact pointed out by Doug Howe.

Howe underscored that most enrolments to the Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) VIP rewards scheme happen inside physical stores. This has contributed to a gradual rise in foot traffic as the time passed. He went on to provide insight by stating, ‘As footfall in our stores increases, it’s likely to have an affirmative effect on our reward program, which is responsible for generating more than 90% of our transactions.’

Customer conversions at the company’s stores have seen a one percent increase compared to the previous year. Howe attributed this growth to an improved selection of products and successful stock management, which resonated well with customers. He also mentioned an enhancement in the availability of regular-priced items, which now occupy 70 percent of the stocks.

Howe added, ‘We are also optimizing our online order fulfillment using our distribution center, which offers operational efficiency compared to in-store fulfillment, while safeguarding our in-store inventory.’ Furthermore, the company’s strategic alliance with DoorDash, a renowned delivery platform, has been launched successfully and could potentially be a new stream for acquiring customers.

The early outcomes of partnering with DoorDash are promising, with an estimated 85 percent of transactions originating from the DoorDash marketplace consisting of new customers for DSW. Howe touched on the future, stating that the company has plans to further stimulate its growth by expanding its own label product lines and foster a more profitable wholesale model.

Designer Brands is committed to investing in strategic growth brands in an ongoing effort to stimulate growth. There are also positive indicators for the sales of full price boots as we head into the fall season. A brand repositioning strategy is also underway for the company, adopting ‘Let Us Surprise You’ as its fresh tagline.

Designer Brands is introducing an innovative DSW storefront located in Framingham, Massachusetts. This fresh store design boasts immersive elements, wholly intended to promote intense customer interaction and exploration within their uniquely curated range of products.

Additionally, the company is striving to enhance their customer experience by launching a host of services. Among these is the Fit Finder technology, designed to alleviate difficulties in finding the perfect fit. Shoe protection services are also being offered, alongside a customization station to allow for product personalization following a purchase.

DSW has been active in welcoming a variety of new brands to its product mix. Among these are Blundstone, Bombas, Frye & Co. and Goodr. These additions are intended to add further diversity to the range of products available and cater to a wide variety of consumer preferences.
