A New Jersey hospital is facing mounting scrutiny after a disturbing incident involving a far-left surgeon who allegedly celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk — while the nurse who called him out was initially punished. Now, after public backlash, the hospital says the surgeon has resigned and the nurse has been reinstated.
Dr. Matthew Jung, a surgeon at Englewood Health, reportedly declared that Kirk “deserved it” upon hearing of the conservative activist’s assassination — all while standing in front of fellow medical staff, including a patient on a stretcher. Witnesses say Jung showed no remorse when questioned by nurse Lexi Kuenzle, who expressed shock that a medical professional could celebrate death.
“He had it coming. He deserved it,” Jung allegedly said in front of eight other nurses.
Kuenzle, a committed pro-life Christian and fan of Kirk, responded in disbelief and later shared the exchange online. But rather than applauding her courage, Englewood Hospital suspended her — triggering a wave of outrage across social media and conservative circles.
“I was so angry and upset,” Kuenzle told The Post. “His comments were mind-blowing. To say that someone ‘deserved’ to be assassinated for their views, that’s completely against everything we’re supposed to stand for in medicine.”
Hospital Backs Down, Accepts Doctor’s Resignation
Englewood Health has now confirmed that Dr. Jung has resigned, stating Monday: “We have accepted the physician’s resignation.”
In the same breath, the hospital tried to walk back its treatment of Kuenzle, now insisting that she was never technically fired, suspended without pay, or told her job was at risk.
“The nurse is expected to work her scheduled shifts,” a spokesperson said. “The nurse was never fired; was never told she would be fired by Englewood Hospital; and will not miss any pay as part of our review of this matter.”
However, Kuenzle has already filed a lawsuit in Bergen County Superior Court, naming the hospital, Dr. Jung, and others for their handling of the incident.
Her suit argues that she was targeted for standing up to a physician who violated his oath to protect life — and that the hospital retaliated against her for daring to speak out.
“[Kuenzle] had the audacity to question how Dr. Jung can comply with the Hippocratic Oath’s and the American Medical Association’s Code of Medical Ethics while celebrating the murder of a non-violent Christian speaker who was on a college campus,” the complaint states.
Wider Implications After Kirk’s Murder
Kirk, a husband and father of two, was assassinated during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. The FBI has confirmed the murder was politically motivated, driven by a far-left ideology, and possibly coordinated with others online. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, remains in custody and faces murder charges.
The fact that a licensed doctor would openly express joy over the death of a peaceful, pro-American speaker — and that a nurse faced backlash for defending life — has raised serious questions about ideological extremism within the medical establishment.
For many, the Englewood incident isn’t just about one hospital. It’s about what happens when politics trumps ethics — even in a profession sworn to do no harm. (RELATED: Carolina Panthers Fire Employee Over Insensitive Post on Charlie Kirk Assassination)
