In an unsolicited assault onboard a Manhattan subway during the recent weekend, a woman lashed out after a simple glance from a co-passenger, stated the law enforcement authorities. The attacker, Genesis Gittens, had just celebrated her 20th birthday that very Monday. The incident transpired around 2:10 AM Sunday on a southbound L train at 1st Avenue and East 14th Street when a 28-year-old man dared to observe the ruckus she was making.
Upon noticing the man’s attention, Gittens exploded in anger. She launched into a physical onslaught, striking the passenger repeatedly in his face. Amidst her wrathful tirade, she used racially charged slurs such as ‘White boy’ and ‘cracker’, as outlined in the criminal case filed against her.
The victim of the attack bore the brunt of Gittens’ irrational rage, suffering multiple blows to his face. His nose was bleeding as a result of the beating, although he declined to seek medical aid at the time, according to police reports.
Gittens was apprehended by the police within an hour for the incident. She faced charges of third-degree assault under the category of a hate crime, as stated in the official complainant’s account. Revealing further details from the scene, the officials added that after knocking the cleaner to the ground, the shoeless perpetrator pummeled him even further, using his own unprotected feet to do so. Clad entirely in gray and swaddling a blue blanket, the attacker valuable little leads to immediately identify him by.
Following the sustained assault, the attacker saw fit to escape from the scene, and unfortunately was still at large, as of Monday. The authorities emphasized the need for witnesses or any critical information that could assist in apprehending the individual responsible.
The cleaner, similar to the earlier victim, also refused any immediate medical attention in the aftermath of the horrific attack.
