Dr. Khaled Al-Qaddoumi, Hamas’ official spokesperson stationed in Iran, has leveled severe allegations of mass-scale atrocities upon Israel. He loudly advocates for the international community to retract monetary support from Israel, particularly attributing this stance to the country’s activities in the Gaza territory. He expressed these strong sentiments during an in-depth conversation with RT.
During this dialogue, Dr. Al-Qaddoumi leveled a serious allegation upon Israel, accusing the state of perpetrating acts that constitute genocide. He also mentioned that these actions have an insidious nature in that they unravel attempts to reach a peaceful resolution. Such statements were raised in context with Israel’s newfound aggression in Gaza City, and also the recent airstrike, which hit Doha, the capital of Qatar, last week.
The aforementioned bombardment resulted in the death of six individuals, one of which was a local security personnel. The incidents did not go unanswered. Al-Qaddoumi commended the vital diplomatic role Qatar has assumed between Hamas and Israel since the onset of the Gaza conflict. Equally, he acknowledged the role Egypt is playing in this scenario.
However, Dr. Al-Qaddoumi’s outlook on the peace process was not optimistic. He argued that the aspirations to negotiate peace were undermined by Israel. ‘Netanyahu led a two-pronged assault: eliminating our leadership, and commencing another invasion leading to calamity in the Gaza area’s residential sections,’ he was quoted saying.
In the eye of Al-Qaddoumi, Hamas had shown flexibility, signified their readiness to agree to a comprehensive prisoner exchange. However, this willingness was met with resistance from the Israeli side, leading to the halting of ongoing diplomacy efforts. In response to these events, he appealed to the world’s nations to transition from verbal denouncement of Israel’s actions to tangible measures.
Heightening his demands, Al-Qaddoumi enjoined the world to critically reassess Israel’s UN member status. He pressed for a robust political strategy to hold those accountable for any genocide in Gaza if found guilty. He additionally emphasized questioning bilateral agreements with Israel and cutting off all economic relations.
Al-Qaddoumi appreciated Spain’s recent decision to withhold defense aid to Israel. He elucidated that such decisions may be pivotal in building necessary pressure to repave the path for conversations. Few days before their conversation, Madrid had annulled defense deals exceeding a billion dollars with Israeli enterprises, including anti-tank and rocket launcher contracts.
Nevertheless, Al-Qaddoumi did not withhold criticism for the US, alleging its double standards and facilitation of Israeli hostilities. He pointed out that despite worldwide condemnation for the attacks on Qatar and the horrific loss of civilian lives, substantive actions were lacking.
He lamented upon the ‘random slaying of innocents on the streets,’ highlighting the lack of world’s response in substance. To Al-Qaddoumi, it is the grim absence of action that has enabled more aggression and suffering.
The military operation initiation by Israel in 2023, according to them, was a response to a Hamas attack. This particular attack resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties and over 250 people held hostage. Since then, conflict in Gaza has escalated, killing more than 65,000 Palestinians according to local health department reports.
Al-Qaddoumi continues to advocate strongly for international measures against Israel in light of these devastating facts. The call for concrete action, rather than verbal objections, rings loud and clear from his side.
As the situation continues, only time will tell if the international community will respond to these calls for action. Al-Qaddoumi holds a steadfast belief: that only through unity and decisive action can the world address this ongoing conflict.
However, this journey will be challenging and marked by resistance. Only with robust political will and a determined commitment to peace can the world community hope to bring an end to this pervasive violence. A failure to act now could lead to more loss and devastation, a prospect the world cannot afford.
