Bronx Man Charged with Murder of Girlfriend in Disturbing Incident

Franklin Batallas, a Bronx resident, was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, contradicting his initial claims that a pair of men on a moped attacked her as he was relieving himself unknowningly to the scene. Police apprehended Batallas at 1 p.m., accusing him of murder, two counts of assault, and criminal possession of a weapon following the dreadful incident that transpired on City Island involving his girlfriend, Anthonella Contreras Linarez.

Batallas is suspected of fatally stabbing Linarez in a series of relentless attacks. Although, the sequence of actions leading to the murder remains unclear as authorities are yet to establish a concrete motive. Those who knew them painted a serene picture of a couple strongly bound by love, thereby making the brutal outcome all the more shocking.

Mayker Contreras, Linarez’s heartbroken sister conveyed the unexpected and substantial blow that the incident has concocted on their family. The grief-stricken Contreras was finding it hard to comprehend the sudden turn of events and was still getting grips with her feelings amid planning for unexpected funeral errands.

Contreras paid homage to her sister, referring to her as a loving individual whose affection traversed everyone she crossed paths with. ‘She was my little girl’, Contreras, echoing her sentiments in Spanish, added an emotional weight. Linarez had an unquenchable thirst for travel, typically exploring places like the Dominican Republic whenever the opportunity presented.

Shortly after the incident, Batallas shared a different narrative. He insisted that they were en route to dinner at approximately 8:10 p.m when they took a quick stop at Rodman’s Neck, under the pretext that Batallas had to urinate. From here, he alleged that two men on a moped swooped in attempting to rob Linarez.

Batallas narrated how the supposed moped riders stabbed Linarez repeatedly due to her resistance before they scrammed from the scene. Elected to a hero’s role, Batallas claimed to have rushed to the scene from his position, only to acquire a slash mark when he attempted to confront the imaginary perpetrators, as declared by sources close to the matter.

Linarez faced a thorough stabbing, with different parts of her body bearing the scars of the assault, before she was hurriedly taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. Tragically, her injuries were far too severe, leading to her unfortunate demise. Batallas also got treated in the same hospital, with injuries from a stab wound on his right forearm, before the dots connected him to the crime.

The couple’s backstory relays a three-year companionship prior to the fateful incident, as informed by sources. To honor Linarez’s memory, a diminutive tribute was arranged outside her Longwood flat on Friday, garnished with red and white roses, and matching candles.

Linarez’s professional life saw her serving as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital. Following the news of her departure, a hospital spokesperson voiced the sorrow pervading the Mount Sinai Health System and extended a heartfelt condolence to her family, friends, and colleagues, urging everyone to remember them in their thoughts.

The couple’s living arrangement had them sharing a space on Bathgate Avenue for close to a year before they vacated about eight months prior. During this shared cohabitation, they demonstrated a typical couple’s interaction, exchanging pleasantries with neighboring residents.

The couple’s at-home activities were dominated by cheerful singing and dancing sessions, according to Angela Marcelino. Their taste in music was typically inclined towards romantic genre. An unusual event that occurred around this time was Linarez leaving the apartment for about a month, taking her tiny dog, Bella, along with her.

Marcelino noted a few instances when Linarez seemed a bit low and quiet, but refrained from prying. Marcelino expressed shock at Batallas’s actions, stating her disbelief given his formerly non-aggressive demeanor. She also added that she hopes her perceptions did not betray her, while praying for divine forgiveness if she was indeed wrong in her assessment.

Marcelino’s son also expressed disbelief regarding the incident. He chose to remain anonymous, but did not hold back in expressing his shock over Batallas’ alleged crime. In his eyes, Batallas and Linarez made a pleasant pair, which made him deeply skeptical of Batallas’ role in Linarez’s demise.
