Kylie Kelce opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her life, recalling the moment she learned she had miscarried during an emotional episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast.
The 33-year-old mother of four, who is married to retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, said she discovered the pregnancy loss during what was supposed to be a routine checkup in 2018.
“I emphasize this still hurts after having four children, it does,” she shared through tears. “And it’s OK for people who are still in their journey and have not yet gotten over the hump of getting to meet the tiny humans that you’re making. I am so sorry.”
Kylie revealed she was around 13 weeks along when medical staff couldn’t find a heartbeat on the Doppler. “It felt like everything went into slow motion,” she said. “I could just tell. I remember being like, ‘Oh, there isn’t a heartbeat. You didn’t find one because there isn’t one.’”
Doctors estimated the baby had stopped developing between nine and ten weeks, a type of loss known as a “missed miscarriage,” where the body does not recognize that the pregnancy is no longer viable.
The news came on Jason’s 31st birthday, making it even harder for Kylie to break the news. “It was a s–tty day because it was Jason’s birthday,” she admitted. “I called my mom and told her that I couldn’t tell Jason because it was his birthday … obviously I’m going to tell my husband what happened. And I did. And it was hard for both of us.”
Finding Strength Through Openness
Kylie said that what helped her cope was being open and speaking with others about her loss. “I am a person who is an open book,” she explained. “It never leaves you. Comparing miscarriages and comparing infant loss between women is apples and oranges. It is scarring and stays with you in a way that is yours only.”
She emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with people who understand the struggle. “Whether you have a loss at six weeks or 13 weeks or whenever, that loss is real,” she said.
Kylie and Jason welcomed their first child, Wyatt, in October 2019, followed by daughters Elliotte in 2021, Bennett in 2023, and baby Finnley in April of this year. The couple married in 2018.
Kylie shared her story at the start of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, hoping to give others strength by speaking about her own heartbreak.
