Naked Protesters in Portland Stage ‘Die-In’ to Oppose Trump’s Deportation Surge

Hundreds of nude demonstrators flooded Portland’s streets Sunday in a bizarre attempt to derail President Donald Trump’s renewed immigration enforcement push.

The spectacle, dubbed a “nude die-in,” saw participants from the Emergency World Naked Bike Ride strip down and drop to the pavement on a city bridge, pretending to be dead in protest of what they call a militarized crackdown on illegal immigration. Some bikers chanted anti-ICE slogans, while others simply laid motionless as federal agents watched from the rooftop of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building.

The group, known for summer climate protests, claimed the urgent political climate demanded a shift in focus. “We’re here today because we strongly believe that we do not need federal troops in Portland or in Oregon at all,” one participant named Ashley told local reporters.

Others reveled in the chaos. “It is electric, so fun, it’s so Portland. Just keeping everything weird,” said another protester identifying as Saturn.

But the naked protest didn’t sit well with the Trump administration. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blasted the demonstration, posting on X: “If you think this is crazy, congratulations, you’re a Republican!”

Tensions have been escalating in Portland in recent weeks. Violent anti-ICE protests have erupted across the city, with demonstrators lighting fires, throwing rocks, and launching fireworks at federal agents. Last month, an illegal immigrant was arrested for allegedly pointing a high-powered laser at a Customs and Border Protection helicopter patrolling the area.

In response, President Trump issued a directive authorizing Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to deploy troops to Portland, labeling the city “war-ravaged” and authorizing the use of “Full Force, if necessary” to restore order.

Hegseth responded with a memo greenlighting the federalization of 200 Oregon National Guard troops. However, that deployment is now in limbo after a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing the troops from taking up positions. The case is headed to an appeals court, which will determine whether Trump’s authorization to federalize the Guard will move forward.

Until then, Portland remains a flashpoint — a city caught between protest performance art and real-world federal crackdowns.
