California Democrat and gubernatorial candidate Betty Yee ignited fresh controversy during a recent interview with Piers Morgan, where she openly expressed support for allowing trans-identifying male athletes to compete against biological women in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles — and even appeared open to the idea of a “gender neutral” Games.
Yee’s remarks come amid a chaotic Democratic primary already rocked by Rep. Katie Porter’s viral meltdown videos, with many observers now saying Yee has managed to outflank Porter as the most radical candidate in the race.
During the back-and-forth with Morgan, Yee declared, “I think transgender female athletes are women athletes. And they should be able to compete.” When pressed further about Olympic policy and the physical differences between men and women, Yee doubled down — admitting there were biological differences but refusing to back off her support for males competing in female events.

Morgan repeatedly asked if Yee believed it was fair for biological males to compete in women’s sports. Her response: “They are now part of — they have been through transition, a physical transition — and I do believe that they should be able to participate with other female athletes.”
The British host, visibly stunned, pointed out that the 2028 Olympics will be hosted in Yee’s home state of California, asking if she would support such policies as governor. Yee responded that while a “gender neutral Olympics” wasn’t likely “tomorrow,” it was “a conversation worth having.”
Critics argue Yee’s views are wildly out of touch with public opinion and represent a dangerous departure from basic fairness in women’s sports.
