What links them all is the same structure of fragility: loans to high risk borrowers, funded through short term credit and securitized into complex bonds that depend on constant refinancing. When the Fed held rates near zero, that model worked but after two years of policy tightening and an average fed funds rate above 4.4%, the entire subprime ecosystem is choking on its own leverage. The subprime auto sector is the perfect early warning signal because it sits at the intersection of consumer stress and financial engineering.
Borrowers with weaker credit are defaulting at rising rates, repossessions are spiking, and lenders like PrimaLend that rely on bond markets for funding are discovering those markets have no appetite for risk. This is about a chain reaction through the private credit and asset backed markets that financed them. Dimon’s cockroaches aren’t just in subprime auto, they’re spread across the shadow banking system.
Many private credit funds, BDCs, and securitized lenders hold similar exposure, marked to model rather than market. A federal grand jury has indicted 34-year-old career criminal Decarlos Brown Jr. for the savage stabbing death of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte light rail train.
The charges make Brown eligible for the death penalty.
In August, Brown, clad in a red sweatshirt, unfolded a pocketknife and lunged at Zarutska from behind, stabbing her in the neck as she innocently scrolled on her phone. Witnesses acted casually. Many pretended not to see what happened and left without offering any aid.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest of more than 30 people across 11 states, including Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat player Terry Rozier, as part of a takedown of a massive sports gambling ring, which included a poker scheme and “sports rigging.”
The poker scheme, which used X-ray tables to read cards face down, wireless devices and chip tray analyzers, was tied to the Italian mafia, La Cosa Nostra.
“They used off-the-shelf shuffling machines that had been secretly altered in order to read the cards in the deck, predict which player at the table had the best poker hand, and relay that information to an off-site operator,” US Attorney Joseph Nocella said.
“Defendants used other cheating technologies such as poker chip tray analyzers, which is a poker chip tray that secretly read cards using a hidden camera—special contact lenses or eyeglasses that could read pre-marked cards, and an X-ray table that could read cards face down on the table,” he said.

What’s happening now is we have what’s called functionally uninsured patients. That means they have insurance, they think that they’re okay, then they get sick, they go to the ER, they present their magic insurance card, and they find out they have a $5,000 deductible.
That means they have to pay $5,000 before the first dollar of coverage. Now, the ER for sure is going to eat up that $5,000 deductible. What that means is patients now have ongoing medical debt. So has Obamacare saved us money? No, unfortunately not.
