More than 145 illegal alien truck drivers have been arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in coordination with the Indiana State Police, following a massive enforcement sweep dubbed Operation Midway Blitz. The sting operation, announced Thursday by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, is part of a wider Trump administration effort to crack down on illegal aliens operating semi-trucks on American highways.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, a total of over 220 illegal aliens were arrested on Indiana roadways in recent weeks, with 146 of them behind the wheel of commercial vehicles. Shockingly, more than 40 had obtained Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs), many of them from sanctuary states such as Illinois, California, and New York.
“Far too many innocent Americans have been killed by illegal aliens driving semi-trucks and big rigs,” said Secretary Noem in a statement. “And yet, sanctuary states around the country have been issuing illegal aliens commercial driver’s licenses. The Trump administration is ending the chaos.”
Targeting Criminal Backgrounds
Several individuals arrested in the operation had criminal convictions for drunk driving, drug trafficking, theft, burglary, assault, child abuse, domestic violence, prostitution, and fraud. Officials say the operation was geared toward identifying illegal alien drivers with dangerous records, especially those entering Indiana from nearby Illinois, which remains a sanctuary state.
“Sanctuary policies like those in Illinois sadly don’t recognize borders,” said ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons. “In recent weeks, we have seen illegal semi-truck drivers responsible for significant loss of life across the country. This was preventable.”
Lyons noted that Indiana’s partnership with ICE under the 287(g) program made the operation possible, allowing for greater cooperation between state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
Operation Midway Blitz: A Model for Future Enforcement
Noem credited the success of the operation to President Trump’s renewed push for immigration enforcement, calling it another step toward restoring law and order on America’s roads.
“Thanks to President Trump, Operation Midway Blitz has already removed over 140 illegal alien truck drivers in Indiana,” Noem said. “The brave men and women of ICE and the Indiana State Police are working nonstop to get criminal illegal aliens out of our communities and off our roads.”
ICE officials said additional operations are planned in neighboring states, with a particular focus on illegal truck drivers who’ve slipped through the cracks in sanctuary jurisdictions.
The crackdown comes amid growing concern over illegal alien involvement in the commercial trucking industry, especially following recent high-profile fatal crashes involving undocumented drivers.
Federal authorities say the Indiana sting serves as a warning to sanctuary states that are issuing CDLs to individuals who have no legal right to be in the country, let alone operate heavy machinery on public roads.
