Zelensky Says War-Ending Steps Now ‘Doable’ After Trump-Backed Peace Framework Revised

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Monday that a revised peace framework brokered by the United States has taken a meaningful turn, calling the updated plan “doable” and signaling growing momentum toward a potential end to the war with Russia.

The Trump administration’s original 28-point proposal, introduced last week, stirred backlash in Kyiv for allegedly favoring Moscow — notably by proposing to cede the entire Donbas region to Russian control and place a cap of 600,000 troops on Ukraine’s military. Those terms appear to have been softened following intense negotiations in Geneva.

In a video address shared Monday evening, Zelensky confirmed that the peace framework has been significantly adjusted.

“Now the list of necessary steps to end the war can become doable,” he said. “As of now, after Geneva, there are fewer points – no longer 28 – and many of the right elements have been taken into account in this framework.”

Zelensky described the diplomatic meetings as “challenging” and “extremely thorough,” while emphasizing that Ukraine is not the roadblock to peace.

“There is the interest from Russia to derail this opportunity for an agreement and to prolong the war,” he warned, while noting that Ukraine is approaching the talks with dignity and good faith. He praised the U.S. for taking a constructive stance, stating, “We appreciate that most of the world is ready to help us and that the American side is approaching this constructively.”

President Donald Trump echoed optimism earlier in the day, posting to Truth Social:
“Is it really possible that big progress is being made in Peace Talks between Russia and Ukraine??? Don’t believe it until you see it, but something good just may be happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

The ongoing negotiations are part of the Trump administration’s push to resolve the war diplomatically before the end of the year. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian officials have met multiple times in Switzerland over the past month, with both sides reporting progress on refining terms that are acceptable to Kyiv while preserving Ukrainian sovereignty.

Although full details of the revised plan remain under wraps, Zelensky’s tone suggests that the document is moving toward a configuration Ukraine can at least work with — a notable shift from the fierce rejection it received just days ago.

The Kremlin has not publicly responded to the new version of the peace plan.
