Vice President JD Vance delivered a strong rebuke Monday against what he called “political lies” being used to manipulate women grieving miscarriages into supporting unrestricted abortion policies. The remarks come amid intensifying efforts from the Left to blur the line between miscarriage care and abortion access, particularly in red states like Texas.
Vance responded to a viral thread by a woman named Sky, who shared her own heart-wrenching miscarriage story from Texas. She directly pushed back on claims that pro-life laws threaten women suffering from natural pregnancy loss.
“I live in Texas. I’ve lost a child. The miscarriage lies they tell you are bull,” she wrote. She recounted being given compassionate medical care and options—including medication or a D&C procedure—with no fear of criminal prosecution.
“You don’t get blamed. You’re a grieving mother. That’s the reality—not the dystopian nonsense they’re peddling,” she wrote. “Don’t you DARE scare women who are just trying to build a family for your own political gain. Monsters.”
Vance quoted the post on X, calling it a “very heartbreaking testimony” and condemning those who “capitalize” on miscarriage pain for ideological purposes.
“Losing a baby is terrible and heartbreaking, especially for the mom,” Vance wrote. “We shouldn’t use political lies to capitalize on that.”
Vance Defends Pro-Life Record, Calls Out ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Fearmongering
Abortion has become a political flashpoint, especially after Roe v. Wade’s reversal. Trump and Vance continue to support pro-life policies, but have also emphasized state-by-state governance and compassionate exceptions, such as life-threatening pregnancies and miscarriages. Still, the media and Democrat campaigns have launched aggressive efforts to paint red states as cruel and dystopian toward pregnant women.
One of the most promoted cases was that of Amari Marsh, a 22-year-old South Carolina woman whose story was weaponized by abortion activists to claim women were being arrested for miscarriages. But new information obtained by The Daily Wire paints a vastly different picture.
The Real Story Behind Amari Marsh
According to police and medical reports, Marsh gave birth at home in a toilet, then failed to remove the child after it was born alive. The child died in the water, despite dispatchers begging her to intervene. Police said Marsh waited 10 minutes to call 911, and refused to lift the baby from the water even when directed.
Though she originally told police she went to Planned Parenthood for abortion pills, she later claimed she didn’t even know she was pregnant. A grand jury declined to indict her for homicide by child abuse in August, but abortion activists ran with the narrative anyway—using it to spread fear and push for unrestricted abortion access.
KFF Health News, whose version of the story was republished by CNN, reframed the incident as a miscarriage. They called the baby a “pregnancy loss” and emphasized themes of racial injustice, “criminalization,” and pro-life extremism. Crucially, they omitted the baby’s gestational age (roughly 20 weeks) and the fact that the baby was born alive and later died from treatable complications.
A Pattern of Misrepresentation?
Vice President Vance’s intervention reflects growing frustration on the Right with how media and activists have distorted tragic medical events to promote abortion up to birth. He and President Trump have emphasized that miscarriage care and abortion restrictions are not the same, and that women suffering natural losses are not being prosecuted under pro-life laws.
Trump has repeatedly called the Democrats’ position “extreme,” pointing out their support for late-term abortion with no limits, while carefully threading a line between protecting unborn life and ensuring that mothers in crisis receive proper care.
Vance: ‘Stop Using Grief as a Weapon’
By highlighting the story of a woman like Sky—who felt supported and protected even during the worst moment of her life—Vance is sending a clear message: stop lying to women for political gain.
As he put it: “We don’t need fear. We need truth, compassion, and honesty in the abortion debate. Stop using grief as a weapon.”
