Trump Demands Ilhan Omar Be Jailed Over Minnesota Fraud, Floats Deportation

President Donald Trump on Sunday escalated his attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), accusing her of being complicit in what he called “$19 billion in Somalia-linked fraud” and calling for her to be jailed or face what he described as a “worse punishment.”

“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Fake ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan [sic] Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know. She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump has repeatedly targeted Omar, a Somali-born naturalized U.S. citizen, throughout his political career. At a 2019 rally, the crowd infamously broke into chants of “send her back” as Trump criticized the congresswoman for her comments about America and its allies.

Accusations of Cover-Up and Distraction

The former president tied Omar and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to the ongoing unrest in Minneapolis, suggesting they are using anti-ICE protests to distract from investigations into widespread fraud in state-run social welfare programs.

“ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the World from our Country, and bring them back home, where they belong,” Trump wrote. “The thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists.”

He continued, “The crooked Governor and ‘Congresswoman’ Omar, who married her brother, don’t mind because it keeps the focus of attention off the 18 Billion Dollar, Plus, FRAUD, that has taken place in the State! Don’t worry, we’re on it!”

Omar has denied longstanding accusations of immigration fraud, including claims she married her brother to facilitate his entry into the United States, calling the rumors “disgusting lies.” However, Trump has never backed down from repeating them.

Federal Pressure Mounts in Minnesota

Minneapolis remains the epicenter of anti-ICE protests following the fatal shooting of activist Renee Good by a federal immigration agent. Officials say Good drove her vehicle toward an ICE officer, prompting the use of deadly force. The incident has sparked unrest across the city, with federal agents being assaulted, vehicles vandalized, and protestors tracking ICE movements in real time.

Amid the unrest, the Trump administration has signaled it may invoke the Insurrection Act to deploy the military if federal agents continue to be obstructed. The Pentagon recently ordered 1,500 active-duty troops based in Alaska to prepare for possible deployment to Minnesota.

Massive Welfare Fraud Probes and Funding Freezes

Behind the scenes, a sweeping federal investigation is unfolding into what prosecutors have described as one of the largest cases of welfare fraud in American history. At the center of the scandal is an alleged network of fake child care and food assistance programs linked to Somali-run non-profits that received federal funds during Omar and Walz’s time in office.

As those investigations expand, the Trump administration has frozen funding for several Department of Health and Human Services programs across Minnesota. This includes the Child Care Development Fund, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and the Social Services Block Grant.

Trump and his allies argue that federal dollars are being exploited by criminal organizations under the guise of public assistance, and they say Democrats in Minnesota have done nothing to stop it. The president has promised that his administration will bring the perpetrators — and any officials who turned a blind eye — to justice.
