FBI Subpoenas Walz, Top Minnesota Democrats In ICE Interference Probe

Federal agents have served subpoenas to six Minnesota government offices — including those of Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey — as part of a sweeping federal investigation into alleged efforts to interfere with ICE enforcement actions in the state.

According to Fox News’ Bill Melugin, the FBI is demanding records and communications related to the state’s possible coordination against federal immigration officers. Frey’s office confirmed to The Daily Wire that it had received one of the subpoenas.

The investigation, led by the Department of Justice, comes in response to mounting evidence that Minnesota Democrats may have conspired to obstruct federal agents during ICE’s Operation Metro Surge — a campaign that has already led to over 3,000 arrests in the state.

In a defiant statement, Walz denounced the investigation as political. “Let me be absolutely clear: The State of Minnesota will not be drawn into political theater. This Justice Department investigation, sparked by calls for accountability in the face of violence, chaos, and the killing of Renee Good, does not seek justice,” Walz said.

“It is a partisan distraction. Minnesotans are more concerned with safety and peace rather than with baseless legal tactics aimed at intimidating public servants standing shoulder to shoulder with their community,” he added.

Attorney General Keith Ellison, who just announced his bid for a third term, responded by doubling down. “As the federal government targets Minnesota, I’m staying in this race to defend our state as Attorney General,” Ellison posted to X.

Meanwhile, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem touted the results of Operation Metro Surge, claiming over 10,000 criminal illegal aliens have been arrested nationwide, with 3,000 apprehended in Minneapolis alone over the past six weeks.

“We have arrested over 10,000 criminal illegal aliens who were killing Americans, hurting children and reigning terror in Minneapolis because Tim Walz and Jacob Frey refuse to protect their own people and instead protect criminals,” Noem said.

Among those arrested were individuals with convictions for murder, rape, child abuse, and other violent crimes.

The unrest in Minnesota follows the fatal ICE-involved shooting of Renee Good, who reportedly attempted to run over an officer with her car, leaving him with internal injuries. That incident set off a wave of protests in Minneapolis, which escalated further over the weekend when anti-ICE activists stormed a church service, accusing one of the pastors of working with the agency. The DOJ is now investigating that church protest as well.
