President Donald Trump said Wednesday that suspected Iranian sleeper cells may have entered the United States during former President Joe Biden’s administration due to what he called weak border enforcement policies.
Speaking with reporters, Trump said his administration is monitoring individuals who crossed into the country during the previous administration and may be connected to potential threats.
“We have eyes on a number of people,” Trump said. “A lot of people came in through Biden with his stupid open border. But we know where most of them are. We’ve got our eye on all of them.”
The comments came after Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked the president about a security alert sent to law enforcement agencies across the country.
According to reports, federal authorities warned that an encrypted message believed to have originated in Iran appeared shortly after the launch of Operation Epic Fury and may have been intended to activate sleeper cells already operating inside the United States and other countries.
“Have you been briefed about how many Iran sleeper cells there could be inside the U.S. right now?” Doocy asked during the exchange.
Trump confirmed that he had received briefings about the issue but did not provide a specific number of suspected operatives.
“They came in through the open border policies of sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump said. “One of the worst presidents in the history of our country.”
When asked if the number of suspected individuals could be in the dozens, Trump did not confirm a figure but reiterated that authorities are monitoring potential threats.
“We’ve got our eyes on all of them,” the president said.
Trump also used the opportunity to highlight what he described as the success of the ongoing U.S. and Israeli military campaign against Iran.
Operation Epic Fury, launched earlier this year, has targeted Iranian military infrastructure, missile systems, and nuclear facilities.
The president said the campaign has been carried out with a level of military capability rarely seen in modern warfare.
“The war itself is being prosecuted at a level that nobody’s seen before,” Trump said. “It’s pretty amazing to watch.”
Trump has frequently praised the U.S. military and its coordination with the Israeli Defense Forces during the operation’s early stages.
Speaking recently at a Republican gathering, Trump told supporters that the scope of the campaign demonstrates leadership and military strength.
“No other president could do some of the sh*t I’m doing,” Trump said.
