President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed to his central condition for ending the war, declaring that Tehran committed to never obtaining a nuclear weapon as negotiations move forward.
“They’ve agreed,” Trump said. “They will never have a nuclear weapon. They’ve agreed to that.”
Iran has not publicly confirmed such an agreement and has continued to deny direct negotiations with the United States, creating a sharp contrast between Washington’s claims and Tehran’s official position.
Trump’s remarks come as both sides prepare for another round of talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire, even as military planning continues in the background in case diplomacy collapses.
“We’re actually talking to the right people and they want to make a deal so badly,” Trump said, expressing confidence that discussions are progressing. He added that Iranian representatives are “talking sense,” signaling what he views as a shift in tone from the regime.
A key demand from the administration remains the full dismantling of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, including its enriched uranium stockpiles. Trump emphasized that the U.S. wants control over all nuclear material, referring to it as “the nuclear dust.”
At the same time, the Pentagon is preparing for the possibility that talks could fail. Plans are underway to deploy thousands of troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, reinforcing the administration’s dual-track strategy of diplomacy backed by military readiness.
The 82nd Airborne, one of the military’s premier rapid-response units, is capable of deploying forces within hours, underscoring how quickly the conflict could escalate if negotiations break down.
Trump has argued that previous military operations significantly degraded Iran’s nuclear program, but warned that continued pressure is necessary to prevent the regime from rebuilding its capabilities.
The situation now hinges on whether the reported agreement materializes into a formal deal. With both negotiations and military deployments advancing at the same time, the coming days are likely to determine whether the conflict moves toward resolution or intensifies further.
