Trump Evacuated From White House Correspondents’ Dinner After Shooting Outside Venue

President Donald Trump was rushed out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night after gunfire erupted outside the ballroom at the Washington Hilton.

The incident happened less than 30 minutes after Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the event, which draws journalists, lawmakers, and administration officials.

Law enforcement sources said the gunman was intercepted near security checkpoints and taken into custody. Some reports indicate the suspect may have been shot during the confrontation, though officials have not confirmed full details.

Secret Service agents quickly evacuated Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other top officials from the ballroom, while attendees took cover after multiple shots were fired.

CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, who was inside the venue, said he heard several gunshots in a corridor just outside the ballroom before being forced to the ground by a police officer.

Security teams moved to lock down the hotel and secure guests, directing many into nearby rooms while the situation was contained.

Trump later confirmed he was safe and praised law enforcement for their response, saying they acted quickly and bravely. He added that any decision about continuing the event would be guided by authorities.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association, is a high-profile annual gathering.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting.
