President Trump lashed out at Iran on Friday after Iranian officials publicly disputed key elements of a proposed peace agreement, accusing Tehran of misrepresenting ongoing negotiations and warning the regime to move quickly.
The president described Iranian negotiators as “very dishonorable people to deal with” and warned that “they had better get their act together and fast!”
The sharp response came after Iranian state media reported that Tehran had not reached a final agreement with the United States and still intended to negotiate several major issues, including the future of its uranium enrichment program.
According to reports from Iran’s foreign ministry, officials are seeking to preserve the country’s uranium enrichment capabilities as part of any final settlement.
Iranian media also reported that Tehran has not agreed to surrender control over navigation policies in the Strait of Hormuz and is demanding access to approximately $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets, which officials reportedly view as compensation for damage sustained during recent military operations.
Trump dismissed those reports outright.
“What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
The comments marked a notable shift in tone from just one day earlier, when Trump declared that a deal was essentially complete and suggested a signing ceremony could occur within days.
On Thursday, Trump said Iran had agreed to permanently forgo nuclear weapons and described negotiations as being in their final stages.
He also announced that he had canceled planned military strikes against Iran after receiving assurances that negotiators had reached an agreement in principle.
At the time, Trump said the deal would include reopening the Strait of Hormuz and launching formal negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
The president suggested Vice President JD Vance could participate in a signing ceremony as soon as this weekend.
Iranian officials, however, appear to be signaling that several major issues remain unresolved.
Among the most significant disagreements are Tehran’s insistence on maintaining some level of uranium enrichment capability and its demand for the release of billions of dollars in frozen assets.
The Trump administration has repeatedly maintained that Iran cannot be allowed to possess a pathway to a nuclear weapon and has previously indicated that sanctions relief would depend on substantial concessions from Tehran.
Despite the latest public dispute, neither side has announced that negotiations have collapsed, and diplomatic efforts appear to be continuing behind the scenes.
For now, Trump continues to insist that a deal remains within reach, while making clear that his patience with Tehran is wearing thin.
