Joey Chestnut Captures 18th Mustard Belt With Another Dominant Nathan’s Victory

Competitive eating legend Joey Chestnut once again proved why he remains the king of Coney Island, winning the 2026 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for his record-extending 18th championship.

Chestnut devoured 66 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to cruise to victory in front of an estimated crowd of 25,000 spectators gathered for the annual Fourth of July tradition. While the total fell short of his world record of 76 set in 2021, it was more than enough to secure another Mustard Belt and a $10,000 grand prize.

The victory came during America’s 250th birthday celebration, adding another layer of patriotism to one of the country’s most unique Independence Day traditions. Earlier in the week, Chestnut described competitive eating as “the most patriotic sport we’ve got.”

Chestnut entered the competition as the overwhelming favorite after returning to the event in 2025 following his absence in 2024 due to a sponsorship dispute involving a rival plant-based food company. His latest title further cements his status as the most dominant competitor in the history of the sport.

Patrick Bertoletti finished second after consuming 52 hot dogs, while Australia’s James Webb claimed third place with 48. Neither competitor seriously threatened Chestnut’s march to another championship.

Earlier in the day, Miki Sudo captured her 12th women’s title by eating 38.75 hot dogs, continuing her own remarkable run of dominance in the competition’s women’s division.

With 18 championships and the world record still firmly in his possession, Chestnut’s reign over the Nathan’s stage shows little sign of ending anytime soon as the annual July 4 spectacle remains one of America’s most recognizable holiday traditions.
