On Wednesday, an automobile had a detonation event at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing in close proximity to Niagara Falls. The incident is presently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and is being classified as an alleged attempted act of terrorism.
As reported by Fox News, the automobile, which was carrying a significant amount of explosives, was en route from the United States to Canada. The explosion resulted in the fatalities of two occupants within the vehicle. Furthermore, a border officer incurred injuries.
The explosion had a substantial impact, resulting in the closure of all bridges in the surrounding area and the evacuation of government buildings. This event resulted in significant interruptions at a highly trafficked border crossing between the United States and Canada. One of the individuals who sustained injuries was a 27-year-old male who was sent to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the individual, which encompassed back ache and minor lacerations, did not pose a risk to their life.
The occurrence is expected to have ramifications for the lenient border regulations implemented by President Biden.
“The FBI Buffalo Field Office is investigating a vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, a border crossing between the US and Canada in Niagara Falls,” the FBI explained in a statement. “The FBI is coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in this investigation. As this situation is very fluid, that’s all we can say at this time.”
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul stated, “At my direction, the New York State Police is actively working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor all points of entry to New York. I am traveling to Buffalo to meet with law enforcement and emergency responders and will update New Yorkers when more information becomes available.”
