Predictably, The Rush To Electric Cars Is Imploding
Electric vehicles are not nearly as popular as their advocates would have had us believe, as sales are now slumping in the face of rising interest rates and a lack of so-called fast chargers. As we begin to bump up against mined mineral constraints and international relations complications, there’s no doubt the cost of making these glorified toys will continue to rise. A recent Consumer Reports publication shows that, over the last 3 model years, electric vehicles are less reliable than normal gasoline and diesel vehicles. So, several states want to ban the sale of reliable, inexpensive gas and diesel cars and force us to buy less reliable electric cars. Note well that the superior reliability of hybrids is likely down to the fact that car makers who are better known for their reliability make more hybrids. There’s nothing inherent to a hybrid that would make it more reliable than a gasoline engine vehicle.
And it’s not just transportation. In September, Reuters “fact checked” a claim that US cities had agreed to limit meat consumption, finding the claim false. And yet, we are told on a nearly daily basis that eliminating beef consumption is necessary to save the planet. The sin of using coal (but not apparently to create steel) has become the sin of eating a steak. What’s next? Rice? Pork?

The Biden Admin Is About To Make Childcare Way More Expensive For Thousands Of Families
The Biden State Department released a proposal this fall that could increase the costs of childcare for thousands of families across the U.S. who rely on foreign nannies, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The proposal would require that families pay the workers according to a calculation based on state and local minimum wage laws, as opposed to the current calculation, which uses federal laws, according to the WSJ. At the current level of wages and benefits paid out to nannies, the program is affordable for many Americans compared to other options, with around 20,000 families using it each year
Under the current pay arrangement, au pairs receive lodging, food and a weekly stipend of $195.75 per week from their host families, for a total of 45 hours of work based on the current federal minimum wage, according to the WSJ. The new proposal would use local wage laws to calculate the nannies’ stipend, resulting in New York and California families paying a $469.46 stipend per week and instituting overtime pay for work over 40 hours.
Massachusetts already implemented a similar rule following a court decision in 2019, increasing the state’s au pair stipend to $528.63 per week from the original rate in 2020, according to the WSJ. Following the increase in pay, the number of au pairs going to work in Massachusetts declined by 68% in 2022, compared to other states that remained at the current pay rate, which had program involvement increase by an average of 4%.

New: Hunter Biden hit with 9 count felony indictment
According to Weiss, Hunter Biden:
“engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019, from in or about January 2017 through in or about October 15, 2020, and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020.”
Hunter Biden executed this scheme by a number of means, including:
subverting the payroll and tax withholding process of his own company, Owasco, PC by withdrawing millions outside of the payroll and tax withholding process;
spending millions on an extravagant lifestyle;
in 2018, failing to pay his outstanding and overdue taxes for the tax year 2015;
willfully failing to pay his 2016-2019 taxes on time, despite having millions in funds;
willfully failing to file his 2017-2018 tax returns; and
using false business deductions in order to evade assessment of taxes and substantially reduce his tax liabilities.
The indictment is exacting and detailed, discussing Hunter’s various business entities, the millions he received from foreign nationals and/or foreign business entities (such as those in China, Romania, and Ukraine), as well as the income and support Hunter has received from his entertainment lawyer, who happens to have paid “over $1.2 million to third parties for [Hunter’s] benefit” in 2020.
It also makes the case – a case known to the public for this last year or so – that Hunter willingly engaged in this tax scheme. The indictment is replete with examples: he did not report his Burisma income in 2014; he was informed by accountants that he owed taxes; his ex-wife told him that his tax returns were not filed; and there are multiple times where he is discussing his outstanding tax obligations in various communications.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is investigating whether the 51 former intelligence officials who signed the infamous Hunter Biden laptop letter were paid by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
After Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop surfaced during the 2020 election, more than 50 former intelligence officials signed a letter in Politico saying the computer “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” In a letter to CIA Director William Burns on Monday, Jordan, who leads the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, demanded the CIA chief come clean about the agency’s alleged involvement in branding the laptop as Russian disinformation, which plainly amounted to election interference.
“We understand that former intelligence officials often return to the intelligence community under private contract for their previous agencies,” Jordan wrote. “It is vital to the Committees’ oversight to understand whether any of the signatories of the public statement were actively employed by CIA as contractors or consultants at the time they signed the public statement.”
“If so,” Jordan added, “this information would raise fundamental concerns about the role of the CIA as it pertains to the October 19, 2020, ‘Public Statement on the Hunter Biden Emails’ signed and published by 51 former intelligence community officials in the weeks preceding the 2020 presidential election.”
President Joe Biden is sending a clear message to Democratic negotiators on Capitol Hill that he is open to striking a compromise with Republicans on border security in order to get talks on funding for Ukraine back on track.

Israel: Hamas Firing Rockets from Humanitarian Zone in Gaza Strip
Hamas terrorists are firing rockets at Israeli civilians from within the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone designated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a “safe zone,” deliberately endangering Palestinian civilians, an Israeli spokesman said on Thursday.
Israel has set aside the Al-Mawasi area in the southwestern Gaza Strip, near the Mediterranean coast, that is meant to be free from any attacks, and it has encouraged Palestinian civilians to evacuate there, and aid agencies to set up facilities there.
“The IDF continues to call on the residents of the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City to evacuate towards the area of Al-Mawasi, south of Wadi Gaza. The IDF recommends evacuating to the open areas in western Khan Yunis, in the area of Al-Mawasi,” it said on October 18.
IDF Finds Terror Tunnels and Rocket Launchers at US- and EU-Funded Hamas University in Gaza
Al-Azhar University is the main training facility of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood in Gaza. It was funded with $10,000 by the US government in 2019, and with €5 million by the EU 2015-2020. Now IDF troops have reached the campus and found extensive military infrastructure and armaments.
Hamas used Al-Azhar University to build and store Qassam rockets to shoot at Israel. Videos circulated on Nov. 4 showed it being destroyed by IAF air strikes.
A terror tunnel was discovered running from the university yard to a school 1 kilometer away, along with weapons, explosives, and rockets.

Biden Threatens to Break Patents over Drug Prices
The Biden administration said Thursday that it will attempt to strip drugmakers of patents if government officials deem their prices to be too high.
Under a plan announced Thursday, the government would claim the right to control prices on drugs developed with the help of taxpayer money. The administration claims, without evidence, that drugmakers are “gouging” consumers with high prices and that the seizure plan would lower prices.
“Today, we’re taking a very important step toward ending price gouging so you don’t have to pay more for the medicine you need,” Biden said in a video posted online on Thursday.
The controversial seizure scheme, which is sure to be challenged in court, would permit the federal government to snatch the patents for high-priced drugs developed in part with public funds. Once seized—in a process known as “march-in rights”—the government would then be able to license competitors to manufacture and sell the drugs.
The patent-break plan announced Thursday would do little to reduce inflation, in part because prescription drugs have not been a major source of inflation during the post-pandemic period.

Joe Biden will rub elbows with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Rob Reiner, and Shonda Rhimes, who are among those co-hosting a glitzy Los Angeles party where Hollywood big shots will rain money on the 81-year-old president.

Hackers acting on behalf of the Russian government targeted U.S. intelligence officers in a “sophisticated spear phishing campaign” designed to influence elections in the United Kingdom, the Justice Department (DOJ) alleged Thursday.
The operation successfully hacked into computer networks in the U.S., the U.K., Ukraine and other NATO member countries and “stole information used in foreign malign influence operations designed to influence the U.K.’s 2019 elections,” the DOJ said.
The DOJ unsealed a federal indictment Thursday against two individuals connected to the plot, after a federal grand jury in San Francisco returned an indictment Tuesday.
The two individuals charged are Ruslan Aleksandrovich Peretyatko, an officer in Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), the DOJ claimed, and Andrey Stanislavovich Korinets. They are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
