AD100 Designer and Interior Stylist Transform Hollywood Regency-Style Home

In a recent project, esteemed AD100 designer, Peter Pennoyer worked in conjunction with interior stylist, Ashley Avrea Cathey to transform a 1927 Hollywood Regency-style dwelling in the upmarket Highland Park neighborhood of Dallas. The homeowners, patrons of local architectural preservation, desired a fluid transition from the house’s vintage exterior into its interiors, while ensuring suitability for their young family’s needs.

A standout feature of the newly constructed family room is a beautifully decorative laylight, inviting sunlight from above. The intricate motif used is themed around the insignia of a beloved cattle ranch owned by the residents. Various seating options are available, covered in a stylish combination of fabric and high-quality leather.

The navy chairs are meticulously crafted, complementing the bespoke seats positioned around a fun games table. Cathey handpicked a particular table and chairs to fill the kitchen’s breakfast nook. Suspended above, a handcrafted light fixture made with material sourced from Jane Shelton Fabrics adds a perfect finishing touch to the area.

The home’s owners expressed their thrill at having available space for a pantry hall located between the dining room and kitchen. This space connects to the terrace. Recognizing the potential of this hallway-like area, the design team optimized it without any hint of clutter.

To enliven the pantry hall, they applied the lacquer in a timeless ‘Parma Gray’ shade from Farrow & Ball. Its final touches include stylish hardware chosen from respected establishments Waterworks and Classic Brass. One could describe the powder room as a small pocket of glamour within the home.

Inside the wife’s bathroom in the primary suite, a subtle and sophisticated faux-bois treatment in a muted blue-green color swathes the plaster paneling. This iconic paneling was created by the reputed Dallas-based workshop, Casci. The Calacatta Caldia marble furnishes both the countertops and floor. The cast-iron bath sourced from Drummonds adds a vintage flair, while the stylish pendant light from Charles Edward adds a touch of elegance.

The second story of the house hosts the rooms for the family’s three children. Ingenious custom millwork creates an intimate alcove in one of the son’s rooms. The bed in this room adorns a flannel plaid blanket made of heavy wool, against the backdrop of the walls which are coated in a soft, bluish hue.

Providing nighttime solace, a lantern-style pendant light from Oomph accompanied by custom sconces illuminates the room. For Cathey’s project in the playroom, Quadrille contributed a custom variation of its linen/cotton abstract print. This was used for an omnipresent design on the seating, upholstered walls, and window covers.

In the playroom, the rug, with its relatively plain stripe, and the blue armless chairs offer a refreshing simplistic touch amidst the extravagant design experience. A pair of scarves framed and perched above the sofa add another unique design element.

One cannot overlook the rear view of the house from the pool deck, offering a lush vista of the lawns leading up to the primary wing. An ensemble of outer living spaces – the covered porch extending from the living room, lounge, and dining room, and the terrace accessed from one of the kids’ rooms and playroom – ensure coziness and privacy.

The landscape design, including the limestone and brickwork, has been meticulously planned and executed. Plantings have been thoughtfully included to complement the outdoor aesthetic, enhancing the home’s external appeal and merging seamlessly with the structure itself.
