Fed Keeps Rates Unchanged, Noting Progress on Inflation Has Stalled
Federal Reserve officials agreed on to hold interest rates steady for the sixth consecutive meeting, signaling that they are willing to keep rates at the highest level in more than two decades for longer than previously expected and noting that progress on bringing down inflation has stalled.
The central bank left its benchmark federal funds rate unchanged in a range between 5.25 percent and 5.5 percent, as it awaits more evidence that inflation is sustainably falling to its two percent target.

Yellen defends Fed independence as Trump allies push plans for more control
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is mounting a new defense of the Federal Reserve’s separation from politics as former President Donald Trump’s allies float plans to chip away at the central bank’s independence if he returns to the White House.
Yellen, a former Fed chair, will use a speech on Friday at the McCain Institute’s Sedona Forum to argue that an independent Fed and democracy are good for the economy.
“As Chair of the Federal Reserve, I insisted on the Fed’s independence and transparency because I believe it matters for financial stability and economic growth,” Yellen plans to say, according to excerpts released Wednesday by the Treasury Department. “Recent research has been consistent with my belief: It has shown that greater central bank independence is associated with greater price stability, which contributes significantly to long-term growth.” The excerpts of Yellen’s speech do not refer to Trump by name.

President Joe Biden responded to a felon allegedly killing four officers in North Carolina Monday by pushing more gun controls for law-abiding Americans.

Biden responded by pushing gun storage laws and a slew of other controls for law-abiding citizens.

Biden did not mention WCNC’s report that Hughes served “nearly a year in prison” after a 2012 arrest for felon in possession of a firearm following a high-speed chase and “was arrested by CMPD on multiple drug charges in May 2021.” He was released just after his 2021 arrest.

the House voted 214-201 to block the Biden administration’s ban on the use of lead ammunition on federal lands or waters.
The South Carolina Daily Gazette noted the vast majority of the votes that led to passage of the block came from Republicans, with a small number of Democrats voting to block as well.

North Korea Installs Fresh Landmines in DMZ
Officials with the South Korean military confirmed on Monday that communist North Korea had littered roads between North and South Korea with landmines and begun taking down streetlights installed on them.
Officials with the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the military leadership in Seoul, told reporters that they had detected North Korean soldiers installing landmines on inter-Korean roads in late 2023. The roads are within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the buffer region between the two Koreas created by the armistice that halted Korean War hostilities in 1953. As neither side has signed a peace agreement nor surrendered, the Korean War technically remains in vigor.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. This announcement was made during his visit to Kyiv to discuss the ongoing conflict and future support from the alliance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The NATO chief acknowledged delays in support that have had severe repercussions on the battlefield, emphasizing that although Ukraine has been outgunned, it is not too late for them to prevail with increased support on the way.
Stoltenberg revealed that following President Zelenskyy’s appeal at the recent NATO-Ukraine Council meeting, NATO members, including the United States, the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, have pledged to intensify their support, with the US providing a new aid package worth over $60 billion, thanks to the Democrats and their comrade Mike Johnson, along with other RINOS.

New research reveals Qataris funneling billions of dollars into Cornell University in unreported funds. The findings show that Qatar has donated $1.95 billion directly to Cornell University for its campus at Doha’s Education City and $7.9 billion to Sidra Hospital in Doha, which is operated by Cornell. According to the Financial Times, since 1986, Qatar has contributed $5.1 billion to American universities. It is clear that Qatar, a radical Islamist state, which President Biden has embraced, has been a major (biased) mediator in the efforts to release the Israeli hostages from Hamas’s captivity.
Under U.S. law American universities must disclose foreign donations of $250,000 or more, but universities have ignored this ruling with little or no consequences.

, if the Palestinians are deemed eligible to be refugees through medical and security screenings, they would qualify to fly to the U.S. Once they enter the U.S., they would receive benefits such as permanent residency, housing assistance, and a pathway to American citizenship.
The proposals to relocate Palestinians as refugees would represent a departure from longstanding U.S. policy. Since its establishment in 1980, the U.S. refugee program has never resettled Palestinians in significant numbers.
In the past decade, the U.S. has resettled over 400,000 refugees fleeing conflict globally, and fewer than 600 were Palestinian. In FY 2023, the U.S. accepted only 56 Palestinian refugees, making up a fraction of one percent (0.09%) of the more than 60,000 refugees resettled during that period, according to State Department data.
While many Democrats might support this initiative, admitting Palestinians as refugees will undoubtedly exasperate political challenges for the Biden administration concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict. Trump To Make Highly Unusual Campaign Stop To Court Non-Republican Voters
Trump is set to make a highly unusual campaign stop and address the Libertarian Party at their national convention, according to a press release.
The Libertarian Party announced Wednesday that Trump will join the convention lineup, adding that it is the first time that a former president would be giving an address to its party “members, candidates, and executive committee.” Attendees who register to attend the convention will be able to cast their vote to decide which topics the former president will address, according to the press release.
Brian McWilliams, the communications director for the Libertarian Party, told the Daily Caller that Trump is the first major party presidential candidate to address the Libertarian Party’s convention.
Karoline Leavitt, a Trump campaign spokesperson, confirmed the appearance to the Daily Caller.
